SEASON OPENER IS FRIDAY NIGHT AT BAKERSFIELD

For the fourth season in a row the Falcons will open their season on the road at Bakersfield, where they will battle the Condors on Friday, Oct. 17, at Centennial Garden at 7 p.m. The club will be seeking a small measure of revenge as they look to improve upon their 3-12-1 record from a season ago against their Highway 99 rivals. The game is the first of an 11-game road trip to begin the 2003-04 campaign, which continues with a three-game set in Anchorage against the Alaska Aces Oct. 24 – 26.

FALCONS AND ICE DOGS SPLIT PRE-SEASON PAIR

The Falcons enter their Friday night season opener with two pre-season games under their belt, a 6-3 loss to the Long Beach Ice Dogs last Friday in Fresno and a 4-3 shootout win over the Ice Dogs the following night in Long Beach. Defenseman Tapio Sammalkangas notched the game-winning goal in the seventh round of the shootout on Saturday, and goaltender Nolan Schaefer made 31 saves in regulation and overtime plus another six saves in the shootout to lead the way.

ROSTER NOTES

Head Coach and General Manager Blaine Moore released Marcel Bourdase, Andy Coates, Yutaka Ikeda, Nobumasa Kinugasa and Sean Ober earlier today, leaving 20 players on the pre-season roster, 18 of which are under contract.
