The Las Vegas Wranglers hosted the first of a preseason home-and-home set last weekend, starting on Friday night. The Condors got on the board first, with rookie D Darren Shakotko's blast, but Vegas answered with three straight tallies to take the lead. Both teams added another tally, the Condors goal coming off the stick of C Kevin Riehl. The home team took the win, however, 4-2, despite being outshot 34-24 by Bakersfield.
Saturday, October 11th
The Condors hosted Las Vegas on Saturday night, and again took the lead, this time on a goal by rookie C Ivan Prokic. Condors legend Glen Mears, skating during preseason to help bolster a weakened defensive corps, assisted on the goal. After Las Vegas tied the game, Jamie Cooke scored a shorthanded goal to regain the lead. The Condors couldn't hold it, however, and the game went into overtime. Still tied after the five-minute session, it went into the shootout, where the visitors took the upper hand, and skated to the 3-2 victory.

Notes from the Nest
· During each preseason contest, the Condors sat an entire line. The line of Johan Astrom â Daniel Karlsson â Jamie Cooke sat out on Friday, while the Vince Malts â Kevin Riehl â Jason Ralph line sat out on Saturday. The coaching staff wanted to get a closer look at a few rookies attending camp.
· Condors G Joe Watkins stopped 37 shots on Saturday night, and three of five in the shootout. The British-born netminder is playing in North America for the first time in his career this season. The ECHL uses a five-minute 4-on-4 overtime session prior to going to a shootout, similar to the National Hockey League.
· The Condors have released five players from their initial training camp roster. G Andy Pate, D Leigh Young, F's Otto Visvader, Brendan McElroy and Daniel Howard.
· The Condors roster features four players who attended American Hockey League camps prior to joining the team. D's Jonas Lennartsson and Randy Perry and G Peter Hirsch were all in camp with the Utah Grizzlies (the Dallas Stars top affiliate) and RW Jason Ralph was with the Portland (Maine) Pirates (Washington Capitals).
Quote of the Week
"It was fun. I missed it." â Condors legend D Glen Mears, who played in Saturday's preseason match to help the team's thinned-out defensive unit. It was his first pro game since the 2001-02 season.
