LAST WEEK - Grrrowl Take Three Of Four, Clinch Division Championship The Grrrowl won three of four games last week beating the Pee Dee Pride 4-3 in a shootout at home Tuesday, the Columbus Cottonmouths 2-1 at home Friday and the South Carolina Stingrays 3-1 on the road Saturday before losing 5-1 in Columbus Sunday. They finished the 2001-2002 regular season as the Southeast Division Champions with 92 points and a 43-23-6 record including 26-8-2 at home and 17-15-4 on the road.

TUE MAR 26th vs PD, 4-3 SOW: After building a 3-1 lead on goals by RYAN STEWART, STEVE RYMSHA and ZDENEK BLATNY, the Grrrowl allowed Pee Dee to tie the game with two goals in the final 4:10 of play, but won in the shootout as Blatny and ROGER TRUDEAU scored and JAYME PLATT stopped all four Pride attempts. The Grrrowl were 1 for 5 on the power play, 3 for 4 on the penalty kill and were outshot 33-25. The win, and a 2-1 regulation loss by the Columbia Inferno in South Carolina, clinched the division title for the Grrrowl.

FRI MAR 29th vs CBS, 2-1 W: SIMON TREMBLAY opened the scoring in his first game back from loan to the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins and MARTIN MASA scored the game-winning goal with :43.66 left in regulation. The Grrrowl were 0 for 3 on the power play, 3 for 4 on the penalty kill and outshot Columbus 36-24.

SAT MAR 30th at SC, 3-1 W: JAYME PLATT made 45 saves while RYAN STEWART, JEFF DESSNER and SEAN VENEDAM scored one goal apiece. Dessner also added an assist. The Grrrowl were 1 for 2 on the power play, 6 for 6 on the penalty kill and were outshot 46-22.

SUN MAR 31st at CBS, 5-1: Playing with only 13 skaters due to injuries and callups, the Grrrowl dropped their regular-season finale. MARTIN MASA opened the scoring with an unassisted goal before Columbus netted five straight goals. The Grrrowl were 0 for 7 on the power play, 2 for 2 on the penalty kill and were outshot 37-35.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK - LW MARTIN MASA

MARTIN MASA had points, two goals and three assists, in all four games last week including the game-winning goal with :43.66 to play Friday and the only Grrrowl goal Sunday. He was also a +3. Masa led the Grrrowl this season with 44 assists, 68 points and a +22 in 69 games. He also scored 24 goals including seven on the power play and a team-leading eight game winners.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK - JAYME PLATT

JAYME PLATT stopped 75 of 79 shots in two games last week including 45 Saturday in South Carolina. He was 2-0 with a 1.92 goals against average and .949 save percentage. Platt finished the season tied for the League lead with 30 wins. He was 30-9-1 with a 2.53 goals against average, .919 save percentage and one shutout in 40 games this season.

THIS WEEK - Grrrowl To Open Playoffs At Home Thursday Against Wild Card Winner The Grrrowl will open the 2002 KELLY CUP PLAYOFFS at home this Thursday and Friday April 4th and 5th versus the winner of Tuesday's Southeast Division Wild Card game between the South Carolina Stingrays and the Florida Everblades. The schedule for the first-round series is as follows:

Game One - Thursday April 4th at the BI-LO Center in Greenville, 7:05 p.m.

Game Two - Friday April 5th at the BI-LO Center in Greenville, 7:05 p.m.

Game Three - Saturday or Sunday April 6th or 7th at South Carolina or Florida, time T.B.D.

Game Four - Monday April 8th at South Carolina or Florida (if necessary), time T.B.D.

Game Five - Wednesday April 10th at the BI-LO Center in Greenville (if necessary), 7:05 p.m.

The Grrrowl are 16-15-1 all-time versus South Carolina including 5-2 this season. The Stingrays finished the season in fourth place in the Southeast Division with 85 points and a 39-26-7 record including 26-9-1 at home and 13-17-6 on the road. The Grrrowl are 11-12-5 all-time versus Florida including 4-2-1 this season. The Everblades needed wins in their final two regular-season games, both on the road, including a dramatic 2-1 shootout victory Sunday over the Augusta Lynx, with whom they were battling for the final playoff spot, just to make it to the post season. They finished the season in fifth place in the Southeast Division with 82 points and a 37-27-8 record including 22-11-3 at home and 15-16-5 on the road.

GRRROWL FINAL REGULAR SEASON TEAM LEADERS

LW ROGER TRUDEAU - 33 goals, LW MARTIN MASA - 44 assists and 68 points and a +22, D ERIC VAN ACKER - 185 penalty minutes, and C JONATHAN ROY, LW STEVE RYMSHA and D JUDD STAUSS played in 70 games.

GRRROWL FINAL REGULAR SEASON SPECIAL TEAMS

The Grrrowl finished the regular season tied for 11th on the power play (69 for 377, 18.3%) and 4th on the penalty kill (297 for 349, 85.1%). They scored nine shorthanded goals and allowed seven.

Grrrowl games and ‘The Grrrowl Hour' are broadcast on Newsradio 1330 & 950 WORD-AM and at grrrowl.com. All game broadcasts begin 15 minutes prior to faceoff. ‘The Grrrowl Hour' airs live from Dougal Maguire's at 1565 Laurens Road Mondays at 7 p.m. and features head coach JOHN MARKS and voice of the Grrrowl BILL McLAUGHLIN. This week's special guest will be RYAN STEWART.

LW SIMON GAMACHE, LW ROGER TRUDEAU and LW ZDENEK BLATNY remain on recall to the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves but have been added to the playoff roster...LW DAVID KACZOWKA has not recovered from his injury and will remain on the injured reserve...D CHAD NELSON has been released.
