Week in Review:

3/26/02 Columbia 1 South Carolina 2

After a scoreless first period, Adam Calder started the scoring off for the South Carolina Stingrays at the 11:55 mark of the second period to give them a 1-0 lead. The Inferno tied the game on a goal by Matt Ulwelling. With less than five minutes to play, Brendan Concannon scored the game-winning goal on a power play to give the Rays the win over Columbia.

3/28/02 Columbia 2 South Carolina 3 (SO)

At 1:13 of the first period, Barrie Moore scored his 20th goal of the season to give the Inferno a 1-0 lead. In his first game for the Inferno, Chris Pittman gave the Inferno a two goal lead with a slapshot from the blueline. Dave Seitz got the Rays back within one at 16:47 of the first. After a scoreless second period, the Stingrays tied the game up with a goal at 10:18 of the third period to send it to OT. Dave Seitz scored the game-winner in the shootout for the Stingrays.

3/29/02 Columbia 6 New Orleans 3

Joel Trottier got the Inferno on the board first with a pass from Dennis Vial at 17:06 of the first period. At 2:36 of the second period, Paul Cabana scored his first professional goal with Matt Ulwelling and Clint Way assisting. Just over a minute later, Matt Ulwelling scored the first of his two goals on the night. Only ten seconds later, Shawn Mather put the Brass on the scoreboard. Brad Twordik scored Columbia's fourth goal of the night at 17:32 of the second period. George Awada scored for New Orleans 1:00 into the final period. Matt Ulwelling scored his third short-handed goal of the year, with Ryan Bonni assisting at the 3:35 mark. Rejean Stringer scored the final goal of the night for the Inferno as Columbia clinched a playoff berth.

3/30/02 Columbia 1 Charlotte 2 (SO)

The Charlotte Checkers defeated the Inferno 2-1 on the 22nd shooter in the overtime shootout. Charlotte's Kevin Caufield put the Checkers up early, when he scored just 2:49 into the game. The Checkers sent a barrage of shots on Inferno goaltender, Martin Villeneuve, but of the forty he faced, Caufield's was the only one to get through. In just his third game for the Inferno, Chris Pittman scored his second goal when he blasted a slapshot from the left point that deflected off of Checker goaltender, Jason LaBarbera and trickled over the line to knot the game at one. Charlotte's Nick Bilotto scored the game winner in the shootout. Team Notes: The Inferno finished the season with a record of 36-22-14 (86 points), third place in the Southeast Division. Columbia will play the Pee Dee Pride best out of five starting on Wednesday.
