Jackson Bandits News Release
Wild Card Game is Tuesday at Mississippi Coliseum
Jackson, Miss. - The Jackson Bandits announced today the team will play the New Orleans Brass in the Southwest Division Wild Card Game of the 2002 East Coast Hockey League Kelly Cup Playoffs. The game is Tuesday, April 2 at Mississippi Coliseum. Game time is 9 p.m. The Bandits finished the season with a 34-29-9 record and have earned the fourth seed in the Southwest Division and home-ice advantage while the Brass is the fifth seed after posting a 36-32-4 mark.
"I'd like to thank everybody who helped make it possible for our organization to host this game tomorrow night," said Bandits General Manager Brad Ewing. "In hockey, we have the Three Stars. Our first star on this day has to be our fans. Without their dedication to our team and their response, our ability to host this game would not be possible. I'd also like to thank Wayne Smith, Mississippi Coliseum Manager; Jill Lucas, Business Agent for Local 589 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and her crew; John Lyons, Youth Program Coordinator for the Department of Highway Safety; Governor Musgrove's office and his hard-working staff; and our ice crew, whose commitment to having the ice ready must also be recognized. These people worked generously hard to make this event happen for our team, our fans and our city."
"We're excited to be in the playoffs for the second year in a row," said Bandits Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Derek Clancey. "We're also very happy that we have the opportunity to play this game on our home ice, even if it is a little later start time than normal. New Orleans is a solid team who made a lot of changes at the end of the season. I'm sure it will be a hard-fought and intense game."
The winner of the Wild Card Game will play division champion Louisiana in the Southwest Division Semifinals. The best-of-five series begins on Wednesday, April 3 at the Cajundome in Lafayette, La.
