The Idaho Steelheads played three games on the road last week in Anchorage. On Wednesday, Anchorage scored three third period goals and beat the Steelheads 4-3. On Friday, Idaho rebounded with a solid 5-1 win over the Aces. Saturday, the Steelheads finished off the road trip with a 6-2 thumping of the Aces.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday night the Anchorage Aces scored three third period goals and came from behind to shock Idaho by the score of 4-3. Bobby Cunningham scored the game-winning goal for the Aces short handed with just over a minute to go in the third period to give Anchorage the win. The loss was just the second this year for the Steelheads when leading after two periods of play. Idaho jumped on the board first when Derek Paget took advantage of an Aces turnover in their own zone to set up Matt Oates (19) in the slot to make it 1-0 Idaho at 10:32. Anchorage tied it when Young scored on a screened slap shot at 16:21. Shot were 11-6 in favor of Idaho in the first. In the second Idaho came out with some jump and took the lead. Garry Toor fed a beautiful centering pass in front to Bobby Stewart (37) who one timed it home to give the Steelheads a 2-1 lead at 7:34. Later on a power play Cal Ingraham (22) had a centering pass deflect in off the goalie to give Idaho a 3-1 lead at 10:47. Idaho out shot Anchorage 12-5 in the frame. In the third period the Aces got back in the game when Wrobel scored even strength at 8:37 to make it a one goal game. The Aces continued to charge and Praznik tied it up with a beautiful wrister upstairs at 14:42 to make it a 3-3 game. Late in the third Idaho went on the power play, but Cunningham scored shorthanded at 18:55 to give Anchorage their first lead of the night. FINAL SCORE Anchorage 4, Idaho 3. Blair Allison got the loss to fall to 34-12-5. Parris Duffus got his first win to improve to 1-3-0. Idaho went 1-6 on the power play while Anchorage went 0-3.

FRIDAY

Fresh off a tough loss the Idaho Steelheads put together a solid 60 minutes and defeated the Anchorage Aces 5-1 at Sullivan Arena. Dion Darling scored a "Gordie Howe" hat trick with a goal, an assist and a fight to lead the Steelheads to their 45th win of the season. Idaho is now 45-16-7 with 97 points, just one point shy of the franchise record set last year of 98 points. Scott Burt (12), Derek Paget (19), Adam Copeland (22) and Greg Bullock (2) all potted first period goals as Idaho raced to a 4-0 lead. Darling scored his first as a Steelhead early in the second to make it 5-0. Former Steelhead Zdenek Ondrej scored the lone Aces goal in the third period. FINAL SCORE Idaho 5, Anchorage 1. The game featured 22 combined power plays, Idaho went 2-9, Anchorage went 0-13. Anchorage outshot Idaho 33-21.

SATURDAY

Saturday night the Idaho Steelheads scored three first period goals and cruised to a 6-2 win over the Anchorage Aces at Sullivan Arena. Six different Steelheads scored a goal in the balanced attack. With the win Idaho sets a franchise record with 99 points and is now 46-16-7 on the season. For the second straight game Scott Burt got Idaho on the board early with a goal. Greg Bullock then set up Cal Ingraham with a beautiful feed to make it 2-0. Dan Shermerhorn stole the puck at the Anchorage blue line and scored on a wrister to make it 3-0. Daniels got the Aces on the board with a power play goal late in the period. In the second frame Bullock scored on a two-on-one, then Derek Paget scored on a great pass from Wes Dorey. In the third Matt Oates finished the scoring with a power play goal. FINAL SCORE Idaho 6, Anchorage 2. The Steelheads finish the season series with anchorage with an 11-3-0 record. Idaho went 1-3 on the power play, Anchorage went 1-4

Next Up For Idaho

The Steelheads host Tacoma on Wednesday in their final home game of the regular season at the BofA Centre. Friday, the Steelheads travel to Fresno and then they finish off the regular season in Bakersfield on Saturday.

THIS SEASON— The Steelheads lead the season series 10-0-2, including a 6-0-0 mark at the BofA Centre.

COMING INTO 01-02 – All-time coming into 01-02 Idaho is 12-22-10 versus the Sabercats, including a 7-9-4 mark at the BofA Centre.

Vs. Fresno

THIS SEASON— The Steelheads lead the season series 5-2-0, including 2-1-0 at Selland Arena.

COMING INTO 01-02 – All-time coming into 01-02 Idaho is 15-14-3 versus the Falcons, including a 7-8-1 mark at Selland Arena.

Vs. Bakersfield

THIS SEASON— The Steelheads lead the season series 5-1-1, including 2-0-1 at Centennial Garden.

COMING INTO 01-02 – All-time coming into 01-02 Idaho is 18-8-3 versus the Condors, including 7-4-3 at Centennial Garden.

North Versus South

Idaho is 26-9-4 versus the Northern and 20-7-3 versus the Southern division this year.

Franchise Record

Last season Idaho set a franchise record with 98 points. With the Steelheads 6-2 win in Anchorage on Saturday, they bumped this years total to a new franchise record 99 points with three games to play. Also last season Idaho set a franchise record with 47 wins, this season the Steelheads have totaled 46 with three games still to play.

Practice Times

Idaho will practice on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM at the BofA Centre. The team will have a pre game skate from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Wednesday. Practices are open to all media and the public.

Radio and Television

All Steelheads games will be broadcast live on ESPN RADIO 1350 KTIK. Inside the BofA Centre the games are retransmitted on 88.3 FM. All home games will be rebroadcast on Cable One Channel 63 television at 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM the following day. You must have your television service thru Cable One to watch the rebroadcast of the game.

Playoff Tickets

Season ticket holders can pick up their playoff tickets right now at the Diamond Sports office located on the 4th floor of the Grove Hotel. Individual playoff tickets are available at the BofA Centre box office and all Select-A-Seat location.

Boise Blizzard

The second Boise Blizzard strikes April 12th and 13th when Idaho takes on Anchorage in first round action of the Larry Miller Subaru Mitsubishi Taylor Cup playoffs. Fans are encouraged to wear white in a show of support for the team.
