Mobile Mysticks News Release
The "Hew" of Records: Mysticks goaltender Greg Hewitt has rewritten the Mysticks record book with his play this season. Hewitt holds the Mysticks record for most minutes played as a goaltender in a single season as he has played 3,480:40 minutes this season with the Mysticks. Hewitt broke Mark Michaud's old mark of 2,754:56 minutes. Hewitt now holds the Mysticks single season record for games played in one year with 57, breaking Mark Michaud's old mark of 50 set back in the Mysticks inaugural season. Hewitt has also faced the most shots in a single season as a Mysticks netminder, facing 1,691 shots this season. Hewitt ranks second for most losses (20), second for lowest goals against average (3.02), is tied for the third best save percentage (.902) and is third for most win in a single season (20).
In the Coast: Hewitt also holds the ECHL record for most ties (overtime /shootout losses) in a single season with 15 this season. Hewitt broke Aaron Israel's old mark of 10 on February 26 in the Mysticks 3-2 shootout loss to the Florida Everblades.
Overtime: The Mysticks finished the season just one overtime game shy of tying the ECHL record for most overtime games in one season. The Toledo Storm hold the mark as they went to 25 overtime in the 1995-96 season.
Ties: The Mysticks set the ECHL record for most ties this season as they accumulated 18 on the year. They broke the Arkansas RiverBlades old mark of 14 ties in a single season set last season.
Gentlemanly Play: The Mysticks and the RiverBlades skated to an almost perfect game on Sunday as only one penalty was called in the Mysticks 6-2 win over Arkansas. The only penalty that was assessed in the contest was a too many men on the ice penalty to the RiverBlades in the first minute of the contest.
Mysticks Records: Mysticks forward Jason Elders still holds almost all of the Mysticks offensive records. Elders holds the Mysticks record for most games played (433), goals (226), assists (253), points (479), shots (1738), power play goals (64), short handed goals (21), and game winning goals (30).
Too Much Time: The Mysticks hold the ECHL record for most overtime/shootout losses in a single season, yet won the last game they played that went to an extra session. The Mysticks turned back the New Orleans Brass, 5-4 in a shoot out on Wednesday night.
Gimme a Win: Mysticks goaltender Jeff Reynaert picked up his first professional win as he made 29 saves and turned back the Arkansas RiverBlades, 6-2 on Sunday at the Mobile Civic Center. Reynaert finishes the season with a record of 1-2-0.
The Club: Hugues Gervais led the Mysticks in goals scored this season with 34 tallies. The Mysticks had just three 20 goal scorers this season. Gervais (34) along with Tyler Deis (27) and Jason Elders (21) were the only Mysticks to break the 20 goal mark this season. Brent Wishart (19), B.J. Kilbourne (18), John Sadowski (18) and Mike Vigilante (15) came close this season.
Who's There? Mysticks forwards J.P. O'Connor and Brent Wishart along with defenseman Josh Harrold join just a handful of players who have played every game in one Mysticks season. Other Mysticks that have played every game in a single season include Jason Elders (95-96), Chris Brooks (97-98), Dave Craievich (97-98), Andrew Will (98-99) and Sam Ftorek (00-01).
