Giants Restock at WHL Draft

The Vancouver Giants today made 11 selections in the 2010 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, and for the most part the Giants have chosen to go with home grown talent. General Manager Scott Bonner feels that this draft was a good one, " We won't know for sure for a couple of years, but we feel we drafted players today that will make an impact on our team over the next five years" Bonner started the day making a trade with the Tri-City Americans, sending the 13th overall pick to Tri-City for the 19th overall pick today and a 2nd round pick in next year's draft. "This trade adds to our depth of picks in the future. We do not have a first round pick as of now in next year's draft because of the Musil trade, so this will help us at the draft table a year from now, and still allow us to get a quality player this year today at 19"

With the 19th selection in round one, the Giants chose Anthony Ast a forward from the Burnaby Winter Club, where he scored 67 goals and had 99 assists for 166 points in 73 games played. Ast is 5'8'; and 165 pounds and Giants Director of Player Personnel Jason Ripplinger says "Anthony is a goal scorer who doesn't mind paying the price to get those goals, he plays well in traffic, he is a skilled player with good speed, he blocks shots and is a good character player who is difficult to play against"

Of the 11 players selected today by the Giants, seven are from BC, six of those are from the Greater Vancouver area.
