Gelinas Pilots Thunder to Shutout
December 29, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
MOLINE, IL- The Wichita Thunder shutout the Quad City Mallards 2-0 at the iWireless Center on Wednesday night.
Marc-Antoine Gelinas earned his second shutout of the season, stopping all 27 of Quad City's attempts.
Troy Schwab delivered a big insurance goal with 1:29 left in regulation. Jesse Bennefield battled for the puck behind the Mallards' net and gave it to Schwab who was denied on his first shot by goaltender David Brown. Schwab then retrieved his own rebound and knocked the puck past Brown's right for a 2-0 Thunder lead. Gelinas was 10 for 10 in the third and withstood two Quad City power plays.
A.J. Gale scored at 7:06 in the first period to give Wichita a 1-0 lead. Matt Robinson stripped the puck at the point and skated just inside the left circle before putting a shot on Brown. Gale grabbed the rebound to Brown's left and roofed it under the crossbar with a backhand shot. Marc-Antoine Gelinas made a critical stop late in the period, sliding to his right to protect an open backdoor when Eric Slais tried to re-direct a shot from the point.
The Thunder maintained its lead through the second period, with Gelinas going 6 for 6. Gelinas made another late-period stop, denying Eric Giosa of a shorthanded goal from the right circle.
Prior to the game, defenseman Jason Goulet was activated from the 30-Day IR, while Ryan Hand was placed on the 10-Day IR.
The Thunder heads to Rapid City for a two-game series beginning Friday at 8:05 p.m. All the action can be heard locally on both Oldies 93.5 KWME and Sports Radio 1550 KKLE, as well as worldwide at www.kleyam.com The Thunder returns home on Friday, January 7th when they host the Missouri Mavericks.
