Americans Provide a White Christmas
December 29, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, Texas- The Allen Americans recently followed through on their promise to bring a white Christmas to a North Texas family, delivering Zamboni snow to the Bergthold family on Christmas Eve.
Americans front office staff accompanied players Liam Huculak and Iain McPhee, and mascot "Biscuit" as they shoveled three truckloads of snow onto the lawn of the lucky family.
The massive amount of snow saved up by the Allen Event Center staff over the course of several days was almost enough to cover the entire front lawn of the Bergthold residence. Families from around the area entered to win the competition during December, with the Bergthold's being the eventual winners. Children came from all over the neighborhood to enjoy the snow with the Berthold children, David (age 7), and Daniel (6).
"The kids had a blast, it was definitely a Christmas that they will never forget," Kelly Bergthold said. "They were probably out there for a couple hours playing in the snow after the players and staff left."
Americans President Matt Canavan was on hand to help deliver the snow.
"It is a great opportunity for us to take advantage of a unique situation that we have," Canavan said. "The excitement on the faces of those kids is outstanding, and we were very pleased to be able to provide an early Christmas gift to the Bergthold's."
The Americans currently lead the Central Hockey League with a record of 21-5-1, and sit five points ahead of second place Bossier-Shreveport in the Berry Conference.
Allen will next skate at home on New Years Eve, when the Americans take on the Tulsa Oilers at 7:30 PM.
