Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (December 29, 2010) - *The Quad City Mallards of the "AA" Central Hockey League today announced in conjunction with the CHL that Mallards center Mike McLean has been selected to play in the 2011 CHL All-Star Game on January 12 in Rapid City, South Dakota.

McLean, 24, leads the Mallards in assists (17), points (28) and power play goals (6) and ranks second on the team in goals (11). The Oshawa, Ontario, native on Monday was placed on ten-day injured reserve- retroactive to December 23- after suffering a lower body injury in the Mallards' loss last Thursday in Missouri. Should McLean be unable to participate in the All-Star Game, he would be replaced by a Mallard teammate. McLean missed the Flock's win over Bloomington Monday evening after having played in each of the Mallards' first 26 games. The 6' 0", 180-pound McLean has produced 11 goals and 27 points in just his last 20 games and has recorded seven multiple point games this season.

McLean is one of 12 All-Star reserves whose selections were announced today. Reserves were chosen by All-Star co-coaches Scott Hillman (Missouri) and Dwight Mullins (Allen) in conjunction with the Central Hockey League Hockey Operations Department. The All-Star Game will feature the host Rapid City Rush taking on a team of All-Stars comprised of players from each of the remaining 17 CHL clubs. The six All-Star starters were announced last week.

McLean joined the Mallards this year after last season totaling 16 goals and 38 points in 66 ECHL games with the Cincinnati Cyclones and Gwinnett Gladiators and also playing in six American Hockey League games for the Milwaukee Admirals.

Since turning pro in the spring of 2007 in time to join the Kalamazoo Wings for a playoff run to the United Hockey League finals, McLean has scored 57 goals and notched 146 points in 230 career regular season games.

McLean spent the bulk of his first three seasons in the ECHL. While splitting his first full campaign- 2007-08- between the Elmira Jackals and Florida Everblades, the 6' 0", 180-pound Oshawa, Ontario native recorded nine goals and 24 points in 60 games. 2008-09 saw McLean score 17 goals and notch 46 points in 47 ECHL games with the Dayton Bombers and collect a dozen points (four goals and eight assists) in 27 games with the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters.

Before embarking on a pro career McLean competed in the Ontario Hockey League for four-plus seasons. He spent the majority of his junior career with the Guelph Storm after getting his start in the OHL in his hometown with the Oshawa Generals. McLean was part of a Guelph club that in 2004 won the OHL J. Ross Robertson Cup title. In all McLean played 239 junior games, scoring 46 goals and piling up 107 points. His final OHL campaign proved to be his most productive- he scored 29 times and added 29 assists in 67 games with the Storm in 2006-07.
