Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the team has agreed to terms with rookie forward Patrick Schafer. Additionally, first-year forward Jason Williams has been granted a leave of absence by the league.
Schafer, 23, joins the Sundogs after collecting one assist and 25 penalty minutes (PIM) in 14 games with the Ohio State Buckeyes (NCAA) earlier this season.
The Hilliard, Ohio, native played the previous three seasons with Ohio State, recording 11 goals, 23 assists and 82 PIM.
Prior to playing collegiately, Schafer skated for two seasons with the United States Hockey League's (USHL) Omaha Lancers, tallying 24 goals, 23 assists and 99 PIM.
The 5-foot-10, 186-pound forward also appeared in 61 contests with the North American Hockey League's (NAHL) Cleveland Barons during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, registering 19 goals, 21 assists and 70 PIM.
Williams, 24, has picked up 15 points and 34 PIM in 28 games with Arizona this season. His nine goals are tied for second among CHL rookies and his three shorthanded points (1g/2a) lead all first-year players.
Schafer is expected in the lineup tonight as the Sundogs (11-13-4) begin a six-game home stand against the Laredo Bucks (10-13-4). Game time is set for 7:05pm (Arizona time). Tickets start at just $12 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.GetTix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
