Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (13-15-3) fell in another tight game against the Odessa Jackalopes (14-14-2) on Wednesday evening at the State Farm Arena for the their third straight defeat. Zak McClellan scored the lone Bees goal on a penalty shot in the third period. Juliano Pagliero made 33 saves on 35 shots in the loss.
Odessa scored just 1:39 into the game when Sebastien Thinel drove towards the net while the Jackalopes were a man down. Thinel took a shot from inside the two face-off circles that was deflected by Kenny Corupe who was driving at Pagliero and trickled to the back of the net.
The two teams would play the next 48:17 scoreless including the entire second period.
Odessa scored the second goal of the game at 9:56 of the third period to break the drought. Kenny Bernard threw an off-angle pass towards the front of the net that deflected of the Bees and in. Mike Lesperance would pick up the assist.
The Bees would score their lone goal of the game with a Zak McClellan penalty shot at 12:23 of the third period. McClellan was hauled down on his way to the net and on the penalty shot deked to his backhand to beat Odessa netminder Joel Martin.
The Killer Bees would pull Juliano Pagliero with 1:01 left in the third to try and tie the game but Odessa would end the affair with an empty net goal, Mike Ramsay with the honors at 19:26.
The Bees and Jackalopes will shift to the Ector County Colisieum for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday night. The Bees next home game is January 21 when the Bees host the Allen Americans.
