El Paso's Big Dogs Go Back-To-Back Two Times in Win over Aces
April 21, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nevada - El Paso may be nicknamed the Chihuahuas, but they acted like big dogs Sunday afternoon. The Chihuahuas have now outscored the Aces by 37 runs in six games in 2019 after the 10-2 win. El Paso's Josh Naylor and Ty France went back-to-back two times in the game, once in the third inning and again in the fifth. They say solo home runs don't beat you in the Pacific Coast League, but the Aces gave up five of them Sunday. Chihuahuas' First baseman, Connor Panas, had the fifth notching his first career hit in Triple-A. RHP Cal Quantrill silenced the Aces bats going six innings, allowing one earned run, six hits, while striking out five.
The Aces runs came from a sacrifice fly off the bat of Domingo Leyba scoring Kelby Tomlinson in the top of the fifth, and an eighth inning RBI-single from Wyatt Mathisen scoring Leyba. Aces' starter Justin Donatella, got roughed up lasting four innings allowing five earned runs in the process. However, he did get his first career Triple-A hit in the game with a bunt single in the fifth inning. Cathcer Matt Jones pitched in the bottom of the eighth becoming the third position player of the season to pitch for Reno. The Aces will look to salvage a win in the series finale Monday with a starting pitcher not yet announced.

Notes & Information
Show Time: Taylor Clarke made his Major League debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday against the Chicago Cubs throwing three scoreless innings allowing just one hit and striking out two. Clarke checked off a few milestones in the game. He tallied his first MLB strikeout, hit, and save. He was the first player to ever record a save and a hit in his MLB debut since saves became an official stat in 1969. He was sent back down to Triple-A Reno earlier this morning. Right-hander Jimmie Sherfy was recalled by the D-backs in a separate move.
Position Player Pitching: Catcher Matt Jones pitched for the Aces in the eighth inning today becoming the third position player to take the mound this season for Reno. He retied all three batters he faced in order. He had one previous appearance on the mound back in 2017 for the Visalia Rawhide that did not go so well. He got one out and allowed six earned runs in that outing. Outfielder Travis Snider took the mound Saturday for the Aces in the eighth inning as well. Aces broadcaster, Ryan Radtke, brought up a fun fact about Snider pitching during today's game. Snider struck out former MVP and six-time All-Star, Joey Votto, in 2014 when the lefty was pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates in a blowout.
