I-Cubs Win Third Straight at Bricktown

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Jim Adduci smoked a grand slam and Dixon Machado hit a three-run blast to help the Iowa Cubs (11-6) best the Oklahoma City Dodgers (6-11) 8-3, Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Iowa's offense was slow until the sixth, but things heated quickly in the frame. Three-straight walks to Machado, Donnie Dewees and Ian Happ opened the inning and Johnny Field cashed in with a sacrifice fly. Trent Giambrone was intentionally walked to set up the double play, but Adduci was ready to hit. The first baseman smoked the first pitch he saw over the fence in center field for a grand slam.
Starter Duncan Robinson (W, 1-1) was nearly untouchable as he allowed just one earned run on four hits, walked one and struck out one through 7.0 innings. The Dodgers were able to shrink the gap with one run on one hit off Tony Barnette in the eighth. In his first MLB rehab outing with Iowa, Barnette lasted two-thirds of an inning and added a walk and a hit batter.
Iowa's offense wasn't done as Machado crushed a three-run bomb in the ninth to extend Iowa's lead to 8-2. The Dodgers fought back with a run in the final frame, but Dakota Mekkes was able to put the win in the books for the I-Cubs as he collected his third save of the season.
Postgame Notes:
- Jim Adduci's grand slam was his second as an I-Cub. His last came on Aug. 14, 2010.
- Dakota Mekkes' save was the I-Cubs' first since April 14.
- Dixon Machado was 2-for-4 with two runs, three RBI, a home run and one walk.
- Vimael Machin went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.
