Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that forward Kevin Doell has been assigned to the Gladiators from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. In a separate transaction, the Gladiators traded forward Alex Sawruk to the Louisiana IceGators for financial considerations.

Under contract to the Atlanta Thrashers, Doell comes to the Gladiators after posting 4 goals and 8 assists for 13 points this year in 45 games this season in the American Hockey League with the Chicago Wolves. Doell has also posted 2 shorthanded goals and a game-winning goal for the Wolves.

Last year with the Gladiators, Doell was named the ECHL Rookie of the Year helping the Gladiators capture the 2004 ECHL Central Division Championship. Last season without Doell while on recall to Chicago, Gwinnett went 1-8-0 without the forward out of the University of Denver.

Doell finished his rookie season with the Gladiators leading Gwinnett in scoring with 74 points in 63 games. Doell also tied an all time team high for goals in a game with 4, a feat he accomplished twice. Doell was also named the ECHL Rookie of the Month last year for his performance in the month of February.

Sawruk heads to the Louisiana IceGators after posting 3 goals and 8 assists for 11 points in 29 games this season for the Gladiators. Doell should be available for the Gladiators in tonight's 10:05 p.m. contest against the Fresno Falcons at the Save-Mart Center.
