Aces trade Cameron for Gaucher

March 22, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Aces have acquired former ECHL all-star defenseman Ryan Gaucher from the Las Vegas Wranglers in exchange for winger Jordan Cameron and future considerations.

Prior to today's trade, the Aces had utilized the same 21-man roster since Scott Gomez joined the team October 25. In 54 games with Las Vegas this season, Gaucher scored 13 goals (third-most among ECHL defensemen) and added 26 assists for a total of 39 points, seventh among the league's blueliners. Two years ago, he earned a trip to the ECHL All-Star Game and first-team all-ECHL recognition by accumulating 65 points on 19 goals and 46 assists for the Cincinnati Cyclones, whom he led to Game 7 of the 2003 Kelly Cup semi-finals. The 5-11, 210-pound Gaucher, who turned 27 last month, led all ECHL defensemen in goals that year and finished second in points and assists. He also placed fourth among ECHL blueliners with 56 points (10g-46a) for the Toledo Storm during the 2000-01 season, his second as a pro.

Cameron scored 14 of his 17 goals as a rookie on the road last year, then added two more in the playoffs. The highlight of his Alaska career came last Valentine's Day, when he erupted for four goals, including the game-winner, as the Aces rallied from 5-2 down to pull out a 6-5 victory. Cameron struggled through an assortment of nagging injures this season, managing five goals and seven assists in 47 games.

"Jordan is going to be a great player in this league once he's healthy, but Ryan addresses a need we had on our club going into the playoffs," said Alaska head coach Davis Payne. "He's got a real heavy shot and should be a perfect fit on our power play.

Gaucher, who played three years for his hometown Saskatoon (Sask.) Blades in the WHL in juniors, could face his old mates as soon as tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m., when Las Vegas arrives in town for the opener of a three-game series that continues Friday and Saturday night at Sullivan Arena. All three games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. For tickets and 2005 playoff information, please call 258-ACES.
