Deadline Deal for Deschatelets

March 22, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors made one move at today's noon (PST) ECHL Trade Deadline, picking up C Sylvain Deschatelets from the San Diego Gulls in exchange for future considerations. Deschatelets is currently en route from San Diego and is expected in the lineup tonight against Long Beach.

Deschatelets, 25, missed several games at the beginning of the season recovering from wrist surgery during the off-season, but recorded 44 points with 13 goals in 53 games, tied for the team lead in points. He also led the team with 31 assists and was third with 15 power play points (5g-10a). He was gunning for his third straight team scoring title, having led the Gulls in points in each of the last two campaigns.

The Blainville, Quebec native led the Gulls and was sixth in the ECHL in 2003-04 with 81 points, establishing new career marks for points and assists. He has displayed a temper as well, with 354 penalty minutes over the last three seasons. Deschatelets has played well against the Condors, with nine points (1g-8a) in six games this season. He also recorded a league-high 23-game scoring streak in 2003-04.

"This is probably one of the biggest pickups for Bakersfield in a long time," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We wanted to get stronger and really make a push for the playoffs and Sylvain is one of the best players in the league."

The Condors five-game homestand continues with a game against Long Beach on Tuesday, March 22nd. That night is the annual Help for the Homeless canned food drive, sponsored by HOT 94.1 and the Grocery Outlet. Anyone bringing in two non- perishable food items will get a voucher good for a $1 terrace seat to the game. The Condors "Win 10 to Win $10,000" promotion is still running, despite the ECHL's ruling of a forfeiture by the Condors of last Friday's game. One season ticket holder will be $10,000 richer if the Condors win their final 10 home games of the year (nine during the regular season and one in the playoffs), and Bakersfield is 3-0 since the promo started.
