Trading deadline brings many changes to IceGators

Lafayette, LA – The ECHL trading deadline passed at 2pm CST but not before several moves were made by the IceGators and their affiliate, the Houston Aeros, which have significantly changed the roster of Louisiana.

The Houston Aeros today announced the team has recalled defenseman Maxime Fortunus and center/left wing David Bararuk from the IceGators. Fortunus and Bararuk are expected to be available for Houston's Wednesday home game against Utah at 7:05 p.m. The Aeros have also recalled and reassigned left wing Mark Rooneem to the Pensacola IcePilots.

Fortunus was a popular defenseman with Louisiana, averaging close to 30 minutes of ice time a game. In 59 games for the Gators, Fortunus had 8 goals and 16 assists for 24 points, a plus/minus of -18 and 26 penalty minutes. Bararuk played in 42 games, amassing 14 goals, 22 assists for 36 points, -11 and 10 penalty minutes. Rooneem, a rookie under Minnesota Wild contract, had 17 goals, (7 on the power play) 10 assists for 27 points, was -10 and had 72 penalty minutes.

The Toronto Maple Leafs has reassigned defenseman David Turon to the IceGators, he is expected to be in the lineup for tomorrow's game against PeeDee. The 22 year old from the Czech Republic was the Leafs 4th round pick, 122 overall, in the 2002 NHL entry draft. In 50 games with the Pensacola Ice Pilots, Turon scored 12 points (3-9-12) with 32 penalty minutes. In a trade made this morning the IceGators traded center Pascal Pelletier to the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for winger Peter Flache. The 6'5" 210lb forward was the Chicago Blackhawks 9th round pick, 262 overall, in the 2000 NHL entry draft. The 23 year old scored 37 points (8-29-37), with 81 penalty minutes in 60 games with the Gladiators.

In a separate deal, the Gators also traded future considerations to the Gwinnett Gladiators for right wing Alex Sawruk. The 25 year old Northern Michigan graduate, played in 29 games for Gwinnett scoring 11 points (3-8-11), an even 0 plus/minus rating and 14 penalty minutes.
