Falcons Acquire Veteran D-man Brian Stacey at Trade Deadline

March 22, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons acquired veteran defenseman Brian Stacey from the Texas Wildcatters in exchange for rookie defenseman Simon Mangos as the ECHL trade deadline expired today at 12 p.m. Pacific.

Stacey is a ninth-year pro who has appeared in 56 games this season for the Wildcatters, recording 18 points (2g-16a) and 24 penalty minutes. Although he has spent the majority of his career playing at the "AA" level of minor professional hockey, he played a total of 81 regular season games in the International Hockey League, plus 17 post-season contests during a run to the IHL's Eastern Conference Finals with the Orlando Solar Bears to end the 1997-98 campaign. Stacey also played with the West Coast Hockey League's Tacoma Sabercats during the 2001-02 season, for whom he posted 36 points (12g-24a) and 64 penalty minutes.

"Giving up a young, skilled defenseman [like Simon Mangos] who's a bright prospect was hard to do," said Falcons Head Coach Greg Spenrath. "But with Clint Cabana out for the season, we felt we needed an older, more stable presence on the d-line. Brian has quite a bit of post-season experience, which is very important to us right now as we make our final push to get into the playoffs."

Mangos departs having played 52 games with the Falcons in his rookie season out of Ferris State. He totaled 20 points (7g-13a) and 34 penalty minutes after beginning the year with the Reading Royals, for whom he saw no game action.

The Falcons take the ice tonight at 7 p.m. against the Gwinnett (Ga.) Gladiators at Save Mart Center. Tickets are now on sale for as low as $8 per seat and may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
