
Defenseman Forbes Acquired from San Diego in Exchange for Forsythe and Future Considerations

Peoria, Ill. (March 22, 2005) â Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that fifth-year defenseman and former second round pick (51st overall) of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft Ian Forbes has been acquired from the San Diego Gulls in exchange for rookie defenseman Aaron Forsythe and future considerations. Christie also announced that veteran center Russ Guzior has been waived.
Forbes â a 6-foot-6, 215-pound native of Brampton, Ontario â racked up 189 penalty minutes (PIM) in 62 games with the San Diego Gulls this season. The 24-year-old backliner has averaged more than 184 PIM in each of his five professional seasons and is 78 PIM from 1,000 for his professional career. He has competed in 38 games over two seasons (2001-2002 & 2002-2003) for the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL) with three points (2g, 1a) and 88 PIM. He spent the majority of his first three seasons (2000-2003) with the Trenton Titans, collecting nine assists and 459 PIM.
Forsythe â a 6-foot-4, 197-pound native of Forest Lake, Minn. â notched nine points (2g, 7a) in 31 games with the Rivermen this season, including his first two professional goals. He opened his professional campaign with the South Carolina Stingrays, for whom he collected two assists in 22 games.
Guzior â a 5-foot-10, 190-pound native of Chicago, Ill. â posted 15 points (5g, 10a) in 27 games with a +4 plus/minus since his acquisition from the Mississippi Sea Wolves on January 19.
The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL â The Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Rivermen host the rival Johnstown Chiefs on Tuesday, March 22 and Wednesday, March 23. Game time both nights is 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena. On Friday, March 25, the Rivermen host the Wheeling Nailers. Game time is 7:30 p.m. All fans will receive a subscription to the Sporting News. On Saturday, March 26, Peoria and Wheeling battle again. Game time is 7:00 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Duffle Bag, courtesy of OSF â St. Francis Medical Center and the Children's Hospital of Illinois.
