Steelheads make key roster moves
March 22, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today they have made the following player moves prior to the ECHL's 3:00 pm ET trade deadline:
Goaltender Matt Yeats was traded to the Idaho Steelheads for future considerations, while Idaho traded backup goaltender Colin Zulianello to the Las Vegas Wranglers for cash. Yeats, a University of Maine alumni, was selected by the Los Angeles Kings round 9 #248 overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. In his three years of professional hockey, the 26-year-old has played in the ECHL, AHL and 5 games for the Washington Capitals of the NHL.
Forward Brett Draney was traded to the San Diego Gulls for defenseman Evgueni Nourislamov. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Russian comes to Idaho having played three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) before beginning his professional career with San Diego during the 2003-04 season.
In addition, the Steelheads acquired AHL Houston Aeros forward David Bararuk's ECHL rights. Bararuk, signed to an NHL Dallas Stars contract, scored nearly a-point-a-game for Idaho last season during 16 regular season and 15 post-season games. He will not join the team immediately, but is expected to be assigned from Houston sometime in the near future.
Head coach John Olver said, "Unfortunately to get good players you have to give up good players and I really had no choice today, especially where Draney was concerned. We played our last road trip with three or four defensemen, and now with the possibility of forwards Justin Cox and David Bararuk being reassigned to us from the AHL, and not much chance of David Cornacchia coming back soon, I needed another defenseman to add to our lineup. We have a strong team ready to make the playoff push."
Idaho kicks off a three-game series against the Fresno Falcons Thursday night at the Bank of America Centre, 7:10 pm. Tickets are still available for all three games at the Bank of America Centre Box Office, by visiting any Select-A-Seat outlet, by calling 331-TIXS (8497), or through the Steelheads website by logging on to www.idahosteelheads.com. Prices range from $7.00 to $28.00. Season tickets, Flex-Plans and Mini-Plans starting at $150 are currently available by calling (208) 383-0080. Playoff tickets are also now on sale.
