Mike Lee called up to Utah

March 22, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Alaska winger Mike Lee has become the fifth Ace in the last two years to be called up to the American Hockey League, earning a promotion to the Utah Grizzlies.

The six-foot, 230-pound Lee has not played since breaking a bone in his foot February 18 at Peoria, but had been scheduled to come off the injured reserve list in time for this week's series against Las Vegas. He will be activated from the IR and should arrive in Houston tonight, where Utah will play the Aeros on Wednesday before returning to Salt Lake City for home games against Chicago Friday and Saturday.

In 44 games with the Aces this season, the 24-year-old Anchorage native (who won a state title at East High in 1997) scored six goals and assisted on four others to go along with 136 minutes in penalties. Lee matched career-highs in points, goals, and assists last season (7-14-21) after being acquired from the Reading Royals in the summer of 2003.

Lee joins Chris Minard (Milwaukee), who leads the ECHL with 43 goals, as players on Alaska's roster that have been called up to the AHL this season. Last year, current Aces Charles Linglet (Utah) and Mike Scott (Providence) received promotions along with center Mark Smith, who is now playing in Germany.

Alaska, currently leading the West Division by four points at 40-17-7, welcomes Las Vegas to Sullivan Arena for its final three home games of the season tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. The Aces are 2-1 against the Wranglers this year, having split a two-game set in Anchorage December 3-4. All three games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off. For tickets and 2005 playoff information, please call 258-ACES.
