
Underhill Assigned By Providence; Traded To Alaska For Mayes And Futures

BILOXI, Miss. â Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and head coach Bob Woods announced today that goaltender Matt Underhill was assigned by the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League and then dealt at the ECHL trade deadline to the Alaska Aces for goaltender Lance Mayes and future considerations.
Underhill, 25, appeared in five games with Providence after being called on February 21. The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound appeared posted a 1-2-1 record with one shutout, a 2.95 goals-against average and .885 save percentage. A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Underhill appeared in one game in relief with the St. John's Maple Leafs of the AHL on February 11, playing in 38:32 of action against Manitoba, making all 17 saves before falling 4-3 in the seventh round of the shootout. Selected by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round, 170th overall in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Underhill played in 24 games with Mississippi this season, compiling a 13-8-3 record with three shutouts, a 2.65 goals-against average and save percentage of .923.
Mayes, 26, appeared in 22 games this season with Alaska posting a 15-7-0 record along with a 2.65 goals-against average and .905 save percentage. The 6-foot and 180-pound Mayes won nine straight appearances for the Aces from January 21 to March 15. A native of Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, Mayes set Alaska goaltending records last year, in his rookie season of professional hockey, for the lowest goals-against average at 2.60 and highest save percentage of .908.
The Sea Wolves get back into action at home at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow against the Victoria Salmon Kings, the first ECHL based in Canada, to be held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. The game promotion is Discounted Daiquiri Night, offering a $2 discount off each daiquiri.
