Bruins Top Thunderbirds 4-3 in Shootout

Springfield, MA - Vinni Lettieri found the back of the net with 28 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, helping the Providence Bruins to a shootout win over the Springfield Thunderbirds on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center. John Beecher and Luke Toporowski posted goals in the contest, while Keith Kinkaid stopped 34 of 37 shots faced.

How It Happened

Springfield's Will Bitten broke the ice 4:16 into the game, finishing a back door pass to give Springfield a 1-0 lead.

Matthew Highmore scored on a breakaway to increase the lead to 2-0 just 14 seconds into the middle frame.

2:23 into the second period, Beecher jammed home a Dan Renouf shot that banked off the boards behind the net and out front. This cut the Springfield lead to 2-1.

Toporowski converted on a rebound with 3:10 left in the second period to tie the game.

Nathan Todd scored off of a one-timer on the power play, giving the Thunderbirds a 3-2 lead with 1:17 left in the second period.

With the goaltender pulled for the extra skater, and on the power play, Lettieri ripped a one-timer from the left circle to tie the game at 3-3 with 28 seconds left.

Stats

Fabian Lysell recorded an assist in the game and continued his streak of a point in every game he has played.

Beecher's goal was his first of the season.

Toporowski's goal extended his point streak to six games.

Connor Carrick has assists in two straight games.

Kinkaid stopped 34 shots of the 37 he faced.

The P-Bruins power play went 1-for-3 and the penalty kill was 2-for-3.
