The Saskatoon Blades acquired defenseman Curt Gogol (Calgary, AB) from the Kelowna Rockets in advance of the WHL trade deadline on Sunday.

The trade sees the Blades acquire Gogol and a conditional Bantam Draft pick in 2012 from the Rockets in exchange for the list rights to forward Colton Sissons and a third round Bantam Draft pick in 2011.

Gogol, an 18-year-old, is in his second season in the WHL. The 6'0", 178-pounder has played in 35 games this season and has six assists to go along with 120 penalty minutes. Last season, his first in the league, Gogol played in 63 games and had one goal and four assists for five points and 144 penalty minutes. In 22 playoff games, he had one goal and 30 penalty minutes with the eventual Ed Chynoweth Cup champions.

Originally selected by the Rockets in the 8th round (165th overall) in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft, Gogol is eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The Blades give up Sissons, a 16-year-old, who is currently a member of the Westside Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League. In 43 games played this season, the native of North Vancouver, BC has 4 goals and 13 assists for 17 points and 23 penalty minutes.

"Gogol is an aggressive kid who will add a lot of energy and physical play to our team," commented Blades' Assistant General Manager Jarrod Brodsky, "He also plays both forward and defense and is very tough to play against."

"We would like to welcome Curt and his family to the Saskatoon Blades organization."
