Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has acquired 19-year-old forward Mike Brown from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.
Brown, listed at 6'2 200 pounds, has appeared in 36 games for Swift Current this season, collecting five goals, seven points and 54 penalty minutes. Now in his third WHL season, Brown has appeared in 141 WHL games - all with the Broncos - totaling 12 goals, 23 points and 166 penalty minutes.
"Brown is capable of playing on any of our top-3 lines and adds added depth for the remainder of the season," Tory explained. "Mike comes from a great hockey family and we look forward to him joining the team."
Brown is the grandson of two-time NHL All-Star Bill Hay. Hay played three seasons with the Regina Pats of the old WCJHL before appearing in over 500 NHL games, spanning eight seasons, with the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks.
In an unrelated move, Tory re-assigned 17-year-old forward Cody Castro to the Tri-City Titans, a Junior A - Tier III hockey team in the Nor-Pac Hockey League. Castro will remain an affiliate player of the Americans for the remainder of the season.
Castro, a native of Pasadena, CA, appeared in 16 games for the Americans since being picked up from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in late September. He has collected an assist and 44 penalty minutes since arriving in Tri-City. He has played in 68 WHL games in his career, totaling one goal, four points and 111 penalty minutes.
Tonight, the Americans wrap up their tripleheader weekend against the B.C. Division's Chilliwack Bruins. Game time is 5:05 p.m. at Toyota Center. It is the second meeting this season between Tri-City coach Jim Hiller and his former club. Both teams have won seven of their last 10 games. Tickets are available through all Ticketmaster outlets including all Fred Meyer outlets, the Toyota Center box office, or online at ticketmaster.com. The game will also be broadcast live on NewsTalk 870 AM, starting with the Sterling Savings Bank Warm-up Show at 4:45 p.m.
