Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB -- The Western Hockey League Trade Deadline came and went Sunday afternoon and the Brandon Wheat Kings were major players, obtaining all star defenceman Travis Hamonic from the Moose Jaw Warriors.

In exchange for Hamonic, the Wheat Kings are sending 17-year old defenceman Dallas Ehrhardt to Moose Jaw as well as a parcel of bantam draft picks, including a first and second round selection in 2010. The Warriors also get Brandon's second round pick in 2011.

A second round draft choice of the New York Islanders in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the St. Malo Manitoba product is one of the WHL's premier shutdown defenceman and is enjoying a career year offensively. In 31 games this season, Hamonic has ten goals and 39 points.

A member of this year's Silver medal winning Canadian team at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatoon, Hamonic suffered a separated shoulder during their semi-final game against Switzerland. He's expected to be sidelined for at least another month.

In 171 career WHL games, the 6'2 215 lb defenceman has 28 goals and 104 points. As well, he has accumulated 305 minutes in penalties.

A fourth round bantam pick of the Wheat Kings in 2007, Ehrhardt has one assist and 11 penalty minutes in twelve games this season.

The Wheat Kings, who earlier picked up two 19-year old veteran forwards - Brent Raedeke and Shayne Wiebe - will host the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup in May.
