Friday, January 7

Atlantic City @ Wheeling PPD

The Nailers home game against the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies on Friday, January 7 was postponed due to weather conditions that forced WesBanco Arena management to close the building. The game will be rescheduled and made up at a later time at WesBanco Arena. The new date for the game has not yet been determined. Tickets that were purchased for the game on Friday will be honored for the game on its rescheduled date.

Saturday, January 8

Wheeling 2 @ Reading 3 (SO)

The Nailers and the Royals played to a scoreless tie through two periods of this game. Chris MacKenzie gave the Nailers a 1-0 lead at 2:57 of the third period on a goal from Ed McGrane and Brendon Hodge. Ryan Kinasewich scored a power play goal for the Roayls to tie the game 1-1 at 13:58. Kinasewich scored another power play goal at 16:17 to give Reading a 2-1 lead. McGreane tied the game 2-2 with a two-man advantage power play goal at 18:49 to force overtime and the eventual shootout. Reading outscored the Nailers 2-1 in the shootout for the win. Andy Chiodo made 24 saves on 26 shots in the shootout loss.

Sunday, January 9

Toledo 1 @ Wheeling 3

The Nailers, winless in their last three games, hosted the Toledo Storm to close out the weekend. James Laux gave the Nailers a 1-0 lead at 6:47 with a power play goal from Evgeny Lazarev and Ed McGrane. Rick Judson tied the game 1-1 for the Storm at 17:30. The Nailers took the lead for good at 11:40 of the second period. McGrane scored the goal from Stefan Brannare and Pascal Morency. Steve Crampton ended the scoring at 2:28 of the third period on a goal from Brendon Hodge and Brannare. Andy Chiodo made 19 saves on 20 shots for the win.

Record for week: 1-0-1, 3 points

Record for season: 19-12-2, 40 points – Third place in Northern Division

Player Notes: Andy Chiodo made his first career start at home for the Nailers on Sunday, a 3-1 win against Toledo...The first five starts Chiodo had for the Nailers were on the road, two last season and three this season...Dany Sabourin was voted to start the ECHL All-Star Game for the National Conference in Reading on January 26...Nailers Athletic Trainer Dave Hanna was also selected to represent the Nailers for the ECHL All-Star Game as Head Trainer for the National Conference...Ed McGrane is tied for the team lead with 22 points and leads the team with 12 goals...McGrane is also tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals and has nine points in his last seven games.

Team Notes: The Nailers lead the ECHL in home wins with 12...The Nailers lead the ECHL in goals against per game at 2.24...When leading after one period of play the Nailers are 8-0-0, when leading after two periods the Nailers are 15-0-0...Wheeling is tied for the most games decided by one goal this season, the Nailers are 11-8-2 in games decided by one goal...The Nailers have played a league leading 29 games decided by two goals or less this season, going 17-10-2 in those games.

Johnstown @ Wheeling 7:30p.m.

The Nailers host the Johnstown Chiefs for Turn Back the Clock Night. The Nailers will be wearing retro jerseys for the game, Wheeling Thunderbirds jerseys from when the franchise first moved to Wheeling. The retro Thunderbirds jerseys will be auctioned off at WesBanco Arena after the game on Friday.

Saturday, January 15

Wheeling @ Dayton 7:00p.m.

The Nailers travel to Dayton for the fifth of six games this season. The Nailers are 2-3-0 against the Bombers this season, 1-3-0 in Dayton. The Nailers and the Bombers will face each other four more times this season.

Sunday, January 16

Wheeling @ Johnstown 3:00p.m.

The Nailers travel to Johnstown for just the second time this season. The Nailers are 0-1-0 in Johnstown this season. The Nailers and the Chiefs will play four more times after this game.

Nailers Player of the Week:

The Nailers Player of the Week is Ed McGrane. McGrane had four points, two goals and two assists, in two games last week. McGrane had a goal and an assist in both games the Nailers played last week. He finished the week at a +2.

Nailers Goaltender of the Week:

The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Andy Chiodo. Chiodo was 1-0-1 in two games played last week. He made 24 saves on 26 shots Saturday in a 3-2 shootout loss in Reading and 19 saves on 20 shots on Sunday in a 3-1 against Toledo. His goals against for the week was 1.44 and had a .935 save percentage.
