Titans get two divisional wins during .500 week

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Titans fell to the Bakersfield Condors once to start and once to end their week of play. In between, however, the Titans picked up huge wins over the Johnstown Chiefs and Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies.

On Wednesday the Condors extended the Titans losing streak to three games when they scored with just 43.6 seconds left in regulation to escape with a 4-3 win. Scott Bertoli helped Trenton get back to its winning ways with a hat trick in a 5-2 victory over the Chiefs on Friday. The man of the hour on Saturday was Andrew Allen as he recorded the team's first shutout of the season, 2-0 over the Bullies. The Titans could not complete the weekend sweep as Bakerfield made it 2-for-2 against Trenton with a 3-1 triumph.

Trenton head to Peoria for two games against the Rivermen - Friday, January 14 at 7:30pm and Saturday, January 15 at 8:00pm. The Titans have sole possession of second place in the North Division as they lead the Wheeling Nailers by two points and trail the Bullies by three.

Wednesday, January 5 vs. Bakersfield L 4-3

- Likit Andersson's goal with 43.6 seconds remaining in regulation gave the Bakersfield Condors a 4-3 victory over the Trenton Titans. Earlier in the third period the Titans were able to knot the score 3-3 on the power play when Brent Robinson tipped home his ninth goal of the season. The Titans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in opening stanza as Mathieu Brunelle beat Yukata Fukufuji with the man-advantage to give the Titans a 1-0 edge 10:26 into the contest. Connor Dunlop helped extend the Titans lead just 1:54 later when he deposited Rick Kowalsky's cross-ice into the open net. The Condors came roaring back with three unanswered goals in the second period. Connor James and Paul Rosebush each scored just fifty seconds apart to the tie score in the early going of middle frame. Brett Lutes sent the Titans into the locker room down one goal as he notched his fifth maker of the season with 42 seconds remaining in the period. Chris Houle stopped 23 shots, as the Titans remain winless in their last three games. Fukufuji turned away 35 of 38 for his 11th win of the year.

- Scott Bertoli scored his first hat trick of the year to help the Trenton Titans to a 5-2 victory over the Johnstown Chiefs. The Titans were able to give themselves 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission thanks to power play goals by Rick Kowalsky and Scott Bertoli, as Cann was chased from his net after one period. In the second stanza, it was the Chiefs who tallied a power play goal of their own when Joe Tallari beat Chris Houle for his eleventh of the season to make the score 3-1. Johnstown further cut Trenton's lead to just one goal as Steve Hildenbrand forced a turnover at the blueline and fired a wrist shot inside the near post at 3:02 of the third period. From there it was all Bertoli. Twice, the six-year pro took face-off wins and beat David Currie to help the Titans re-stake their three-goal lead. Houle stopped 26 of 28 shots to raise his record to 9-4-1.

Saturday, January 8 vs. Atlantic City W 2-0

- After 58 minutes and 19 seconds of scoreless hockey, Trenton winger Rick Kowlasky scored the Titans' game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over rival Atlantic City. Kowalsky converted his team-leading 13th goal of the season when the rebound of a Phil Lewandowski shot found his stick just inches from the Atlantic City net. Just 50 seconds later, Bryce Cockburn added an empty-netter to complete the Titans scoring. Andrew Allen played recorded 19 saves for the team's first shutout of the year and his 10th win of the season. Starting for the 26th consecutive game, Moreland suffered just his fifth loss of the season turning 22 of 24 shots.

Sunday, January 9 vs. Bakersfield L 3-1

- The Trenton Titans managed just one goal against Western Division leading Bakersfield in their 3-1 loss to the Condors. After a scoreless first period, the Condors took control of the contest midway through the second as Bakersfield All-Star Connor James tallied his third short-handed goal of the season - tying him for the league lead. Almost nine minutes later, Dennis Shiryaev knocked home a Lars-Peder Nagel rebound for a 2-0 lead through the end of the second frame. Scott Bertoli logged his 12th goal of the season at 8:48 in the third period on the power play to get the Titans back within one goal. However, Trenton couldn't find any more offensive output against Condors' goaltender Randy Petruk - who registered 21 saves for his ninth win of the season. Andrew Allen stopped 23 of 25 shots as his record falls to 10-4-1 on the season.

- The first meeting of the season for the Titans and Rivermen. Peoria sits at seventh place in the North Division with a 12-15-4 record and remain idle this week until Friday.

- The second game of seven for the two teams in 2004-05. The Rivermen are the third most penalized team in the ECHL at 26.1 minutes per game. The Titans power play now ranks 8th in the league (17.5%).

· The Titans set a team season-low when they allowed just 19 shots against Atlantic City on Saturday.
· Trenton's special teams had a stellar week, going 22.7 % (5-of-22) on the power play and 94.7% on the penalty kill (18-of-19).
· Rick Kowalsky is currently riding a five-game scoring streak (2g, 5a).
· The Titans still own the best road winning percentage in the ECHL (10-2-2, .733)
· Trenton is 3-1-1 in the third of three consecutive games.
