Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings dropped four straight to the Alaska Aces in the home and home set played the week of January 3 to January 9, 2005. The Salmon Kings were lit up by the offensive duo of Scott Gomez and Chris Minard for a combined 10 goals and 14 assists.

Tuesday January 4, 2005 - Loss 6-3

The Salmon Kings hosted the Aces on Tuesday for the first time in franchise history and the Salmon Kings faired no better than they did against Long Beach the previous week. Victoria was down early again and found themselves having to fight their way back into the game. They eventually tied the game at three in the third but the Aces came right back to take the lead and never looked back. The Salmon Kings lost 6-3.

Wednesday January 5, 2005 - Loss 10-3

Wednesday was the worst defeat the Salmon Kings have suffered all season long. Victoria started and ended the game flat, a game which the Salmon Kings struggled to provide Alaska competition. Aces centre Scott Gomez registered five assists in the game that four Aces, Charles Linglet, Ryan Moren, Chris Minard and Chris Heisten, scored two goals apiece. Salmon Kings Goaltender Grant Sjerven replaced Jason Stone at the beginning of the second but he faired no better as both goalies finished the night squandering 5 goals each. Victoria born netminder Lance Mayes beat the Salmon Kings in his first start in his hometown.

Friday January 7, 2005 - Loss 2-1

Just as it appeared things could get no worse for the expansion franchise, it did. National Conference All-Star and Salmon Kings Captain Brad Dexter left the game early with a shoulder injury and the Salmon Kings again found themselves skating shorthanded. Victoria hung around for the first of two in Anchorage but were only able to beat Aces goalie Peter Aubry once, and the Salmon Kings dropped their third straight to the Aces 2-1.

Saturday January 8, 2005 - Loss 8-2

Saturday the Salmon Kings faired no better. With five regulars out of the line-up including Captain Brad Dexter, the Salmon Kings lost their eighth straight 8-2 to the Aces. Scott Gomez finished with five assists for the second time in two games and Aces forward Chris Minard set an Alaska Aces record with five goals. Minard now has the most goals in the league with 24.

The Salmon Kings continue the road trip that takes them to Southern California for games against Long Beach and Las Vegas before returning home on January 18, 2005 to face Long Beach. Tickets are available at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 220-7777.
