
Royals sizzle on road, heating up at home

The Reading Royals experienced a little bit of everything this week. Finishing off nine games in thirteen days, Reading ended their season high eight-game road trip in Pensacola with a 6-3 victory Tuesday night. The Royals returned home for two games against Bakersfield and Wheeling. The Condors tied the contest with just 24 seconds remaining to force overtime, then prevailed in a shootout on Friday. Reading met Wheeling for the sixth time this season and came away with their fourth victory, 3-2, in a shootout. Ryan Kinasewich scored the game-deciding goal in the shootout, while Matt Yeats stopped four-of-five shooters. The Royals finished the week in Johnstown on Sunday afternoon. Johnstown ended the Royals three-game win streak on the road with a 4-1 win.
The Royals will play four or more games this week for the third straight week. Reading hosts Bakersfield on Tuesday, Atlantic City on Friday and Toledo on Sunday. The Royals travel to first place Atlantic City on Saturday. Reading Area Community College is handing out Royals souvenir pucks to the first 1,200 fans through the gate Tuesday night. Friday versus Atlantic City, Rieck's Printing is awarding Royals trading cards to the first 2,500 fans. On Sunday when Reading battles Toledo Comcast is giving away thunder sticks to the first 2,500 in attendance in the Sovereign Center. Tuesday, January 4 @ Pensacola Pensacola Civic Center 8:05PM ET GAME NOTES: Reading won their third straight road game and finished 6-1-1 on their season-high eight-game road trip with a 6-3 victory over Pensacola. In their first and only meeting with the Ice Pilots, Reading jumped on top 5-0 midway through the second period. Judd Medak (2g, SH, PP, GW, 1a) led the way for Reading, while Barry Brust tied a season-high with 40 saves to earn his 10th victory of the season.
Friday, January 7 vs. Bakersfield Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET GAME NOTES: West Division-leading Bakersfield shocked Reading in a shootout 4-3. The Condors scored with just 24 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Jeff Miles (2g) and Reagan Rome (2a) each chipped in two points for Reading in defeat.
Saturday, January 8 vs. Wheeling Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET GAME NOTES: For just the second time in six games, there was no shutout between the Nailers and Royals. After a scoreless 40-minutes the teams combined for four goals in the third period. Chris Mackenzie and Ed McGrane scored for Wheeling, while Reading got two power-play markers from Ryan Kinasewich. Kinasewich, the game's final shooter in the shootout, scored to give Reading a 3-2 victory.
Sunday, January 9 @ Johnstown War Memorial 3:00PM ET GAME NOTES: The Reading Royals lost their sixth straight game in the Cambria County War Memorial dating back to last season's regular season. Johnstown held a 2-1 edge after 20-minutes, then added two tallies in the third to secure the 4-1. Cail MacLean scored the lone Royals goal.

Tuesday, January 11 vs. Bakersfield Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET GAME NOTES: Reading and Bakersfield meet for the third time in history and the second time in less than a week. Reading is 1-0-1 against Bakersfield all-time. This is the final meeting of the season between these two National Conference foes.
Friday, January 14 vs. Atlantic City Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET GAME NOTES: This is the first of back-to-back games for the Royals and Bullies. Reading is 0-2 versus Atlantic City this season losing in Boardwalk Hall on October 30, 1-0 and in the Sovereign Center on December 17, 4-2.
Saturday, January 15 @ Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall 7:00PM ET GAME NOTES: Reading and Atlantic City meet for just the second time in Boardwalk Hall this season. This is the fourth of ten regular season meetings this season.
Sunday, January 16 vs. Toledo Sovereign Center 3:00PM ET GAME NOTES: Reading and Toledo meet for the third time this season. The Royals are 1-0-1 against the Storm with both games taking place in the Sports Arena in Toledo, Ohio. This is the third meeting of seven in the regular campaign.

Yeats appeared in just one game this week but recorded his fourth straight win. Yeats stopped 25 shots in regulation and overtime and four of five Wheeling shooters in the shootout to seal the Royals 3-2 win Saturday over the Nailers. It was Yeats first win in the Sovereign Center this season.
