Steelheads weekly update
January 10, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Despite winning two of three games against the Long Beach Ice Dogs last week, Idaho has fallen to seventh overall in its eight-team division. However, the good news is that the team's offense seems to have woken up. Idaho scored 13 goals in its last three games versus the seven games prior to this weekend it took to score 13 goals. Idaho will need to keep it up as it will face stiff competition for two games at Alaska this week (01/11 and 01/12). Aces' Chris Minard set a club record with 5 goals in its Saturday night contest against Victoria, and NHL'er Scott Gomez recorded 5 assists for the second time in three games.
Heading into Alaska this week, Idaho is:
· 3-1-1 against the Aces;
· 8-5-2 since joining the ECHL last season against the Aces;
· and 56-25-5 all time against the Aces.

OF NOTE:
The ECHL announced this past week that Idaho's rookie goaltender Frank Doyle has been selected by ECHL coaches, players and media representatives to represent the National Conference in the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game. Doyle is the lone Steelhead selected. Last season, goaltender Dan Ellis and defenseman David Cornacchia represented Idaho. Doyle was returned to Idaho this past weekend from the AHL's Utah Grizzlies (was recalled on 12/31/04), and recorded his third shutout on the season Saturday night in a 5-0 win over Long Beach...Hats off to newcomer and rookie Riley Riddell who not only scored his first professional goal in last Friday's game versus the Ice Dogs, but turned it into his first pro hat trick! Fan favorite Lance Galbraith is expected to be out of the lineup for at least four weeks while rehabilitating a leg injury.
PRACTICE SCHDULE:
The team will practice Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this week at the Bank of America Centre from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Practices are free and open to the public.
UP NEXT:
The team leaves today (01/10/05) for Alaska to play two games on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Aces. Idaho returns home for a three-game weekend homestand against the Pensacola Ice Pilots.
