Texas Center Travis Morin Named a Starter for All-Star Game

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced on Tuesday that Texas Stars center Travis Morin has been named a starter for the Western Conference All-Star team. The 2011 AHL All-Star game is at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 31 with the Eastern Conference meeting the Western Conference in Hershey, PA at the Giant Center.

Morin will make his AHL All-Star debut after leading the Texas Stars in scoring through the first 38 games of the season with a team-high 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points. He is also second on the team with a +10 and five power-play goals. The Brooklyn Park, MN native is one of two Texas Stars to have played in every game in team history, including the post season. The 26-year old has played 117 straight games, placing second in team history with 34 goals and first with 46 assists and 80 points. The second-year AHLer also played in 24 Calder Cup Playoff games with 12 assists and 16 points.

After finishing second on the club for Texas in scoring as a rookie in 2009-10, the Dallas Stars signed Morin to a one-year deal in the off-season. In 80 regular season games last year, Morin was second on the team with 21 goals, 31 assists and 52 points. Morin becomes the third Texas Star to earn the honor. In 2009-10, goalie Brent Krahn and defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy were named all-stars. In 2008 and in 2009, Morin was named an ECHL All-Star with the South Carolina Stingrays.

The Stars begin a three-game road trip starting Wednesday, January 12 in Chicago at 11:00 AM. Texas will also make stops in Rockford and Peoria. The Stars return home on Tuesday, January 18th at 7:30 PM to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins. Every Tuesday, fans may bring any H-E-B store brand food product to receive $5 off their ticket price. Every Tuesday game is also a 3-2-1 night with $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas, and $1 hot dogs.

The 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross in Hershey will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League, competing in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition and the AHL All-Star Game, a two-day event to be televised nationally in the United States and Canada. The Giant Center will host the 2011 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, and the 2011 AHL All-Star Game at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 31.

Of the 528 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 93 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Dan Boyle, Daniel Briere, Dustin Byfuglien, Brian Campbell, Zdeno Chara, Eric Fehr, Miikka Kiprusoff, Kari Lehtonen, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Bobby Ryan, Martin St. Louis, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal and Tomas Vokoun .
