January 11, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
PORTLAND, M.E. - The Binghamton Senators wrapped up a stretch of four games in five nights at the Cumberland County Civic Center tonight, as they faced the Atlantic Division's Portland Pirates. Showing minimal fatigue and powered by forward Corey Locke who registered four points in the rare Tuesday night match, the B-Sens went on to defeat the Pirates 5-2, earning their fourth straight victory.
Just 1:44 into the game, Mike Hoffman beat the Pirates' Jhonas Enroth with Binghamton's first shot of the game to give the B-Sens an early lead. Bobby Butler and Cody Bass would earn credit for the assists, ending five and 10 game scoreless streaks, respectively.
At 11:01 captain Ryan Keller added to the B-Sens lead. Locke passed the puck from the right wing corner to Keller, who followed through beating Enroth blocker side. Colin Greening assisted on the tally. The rookie out of Cornell University now has points in ten of his last 12 games, and has moved into second place overall among American Hockey League rookies in points with 29 (12 goals, 17 assists).
The Pirates would storm back as Mark Mancari registered his team leading 17th goal of the season at the 16:02 mark and Brian Roloff added his first professional goal with just 29.2 seconds remaining in the opening period.
Robin Lehner, making his second straight start in goal for the B-Sens, was successful in shutting down the Pirates offense the remaining two periods of play though, ultimately turning away 25 of 27 shots faced.
Just 19 seconds into the second period, Locke broke the tie to put the B-Sens back on top with the lone goal of the period. Keller assisted, earning his second of two points in the game.
Binghamton added insurance in the third, following a hooking call to Mancari. Andre Benoit redirected a shot from Locke on the ensuing power play to put the B-Sens up 4-2 at 14:20. Locke then rounded out the scoring, adding an empty net goal with exactly 1:00 left in regulation.
The B-Sens travel to Albany Friday to take on the Devils at 7 p.m. Fans can listen live on 680 WINR-AM or 1430 WENE-AM beginning 30 minutes before the game for Countdown to Face Off with Grady Whittenburg, voice of the B-Sens.
