LIGHTING THE LAMPE: Left wing Eric Lampe has been making the most of his opportunity since being recalled by the Crunch from Elmira on January 2. Lampe appeared in both games for the Crunch last week, and tied for the team lead in scoring with two goals. In addition, he was one of three Crunch players to register a positive plus/minus rating (+1) to go along with seven shots on goal.
On Friday, January 7, Lampe scored his first AHL goal off a 2-on-1 centering feed from Matt Kennedy just after a Crunch power play expired to pull Syracuse within one at 3-2 in an eventual 6-4 loss. In addition, he led all Crunch players with five shots on goal and was a plus-1. Lampe was at it again on Saturday, January 8 at Albany, denting the twine for the second consecutive game at the 3:54 mark of the second period to tie the contest at 1-1 in an eventual 2-1 loss. In addition, he recorded two shots on goal and was named the game's third star for his effort.
In all, the native of Madison, Wisconsin has appeared in five games for the Crunch this season, tallying three points (2g, 1a) and four penalty minutes. In addition, he has skated in 19 games with Elmira this year, collecting 16 points (8g, 8a) and two penalty minutes. He was recently selected to represent Elmira at the 2011 ECHL All-Star Classic. Lampe was signed by the Crunch to an American Hockey League contract on August 9, 2010.
KYLE PALMIERI NAMED TO AHL EASTERN CONFERENCE ALL-STAR TEAM: The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the American Hockey League has selected Crunch right wing Kyle Palmieri to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team for the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross, to be played January 31 at Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Palmieri, 19, has appeared in 22 games with the Crunch in his rookie professional season, tallying 13 points (9g, 4a). His nine goals are tied for second on the club. He has also skated in 10 games with Anaheim this year and scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game on November 3 vs. Tampa Bay. He was named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week after tallying six points (5g, 1a) in three games for the week ending October 31. In addition, Palmieri, skated in six games with Team USA at the recently completed 2011 World Junior Championship in Buffalo, New York, helping his club to a bronze medal finish while tying for the team lead in scoring with six points (2g, 4a).
A native of Smithtown, New York, Palmieri appeared in 33 games during his freshman season at the University of Notre Dame (CCHA) in 2009-10, recording 17 points (9g, 8a). Prior to his time at Notre Dame, Palmieri skated in 70 combined contests from 2007-09 with the U.S. National Under-18 Team, recording 57 points (31g, 26a). He was selected by Anaheim in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
