Kyle Palmieri Named to AHL Eastern Conference All-Star Team

Syracuse, NY (January 11, 2011) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the American Hockey League has selected Crunch right wing Kyle Palmieri to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team for the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross, to take place January 30 and 31 at Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Palmieri, 19, has appeared in 22 games with the Crunch during his rookie professional season, tallying 13 points (9g, 4a). His nine goals are tied for second on the club. He has also skated in 10 games with Anaheim this year and scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game on November 3 vs. Tampa Bay. He was named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week after tallying six points (5g, 1a) in three games for the week ending October 31. In addition, Palmieri, skated in six games with Team USA at the recently completed 2011 World Junior Championship in Buffalo, New York, helping his club to a bronze medal finish while tying for the team lead in scoring with six points (2g, 4a).

A native of Smithtown, New York, Palmieri appeared in 33 games during his freshman season at the University of Notre Dame (CCHA) in 2009-10, recording 17 points (9g, 8a). Prior to his time at Notre Dame, Palmieri skated in 70 combined contests from 2007-09 with the U.S. National Under-18 Team, recording 57 points (31g, 26a). He was selected by Anaheim in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

In 17 seasons, Syracuse has now had 27 players selected to participate in the AHL All-Star Classic. Previous selections include Lonny Bohonos and Scott Walker (1994-95), Brian Loney (1995-96), Larry Courville and John Namestnikov (1996-97), Mark Wotton and Robert Dome (1997-98), Boris Protsenko and Valentin Morozov (1998-99), Harold Druken and Chris O'Sullivan (1999-00), Mike Gaul (2000-01), Derrick Walser and Duvie Westcott (2001-02), Karl Goehring (2002-03), Aaron Johnson (2003-04), Alexander Svitov (2004-05), Andy Delmore and Mark Hartigan (2005-06), Filip Novak (2006-07), Derick Brassard, Joakim Lindstrom and Clay Wilson (2007-08), Nikita Filatov and Derek MacKenzie (2008-09) and Dan Fritsche (2009-10).

The 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross in Hershey will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League, competing in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition and the AHL All-Star Game, a two-day event to be televised nationally in the United States and Canada.
