January 11, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release
Syracuse, NY (January 11, 2011)- The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Crunch Foundation, the club's charitable arm, is partnering with Crouse Hospital to host the 'Brown & Brown Empire State Crouse Hospital Hockey Classic,' presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, on Saturday, January 15, 2011. The event will benefit Crouse Hospital's Walter R.G. Baker Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
At 3:30 p.m. on January 15, the Crunch will host an afternoon game at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena between the Syracuse Fire Department and the Brown & Brown Selects followed by the Syracuse Crunch vs. Rochester Americans game at 7:30 p.m. to raise funds for Crouse Hospital's NICU. Featured supporters of this inaugural event include Guardian Life Insurance and Usherwood Office Technology.
At both games on January 15, the Crunch Foundation will host in-arena fundraisers to benefit Crouse Hospital. The Crunch Foundation will sell commemorative mystery pucks in a 'Pucks for Preemies' promotion. For only $10, fans will have the opportunity to purchase bags, containing one limited edition 'Brown & Brown Empire State Crouse Hospital Hockey Classic' puck autographed by a 'mystery' Crunch player.
In addition, the Crunch Foundation will hold a sports-themed silent auction, which will begin at approximately 3 p.m. and conclude at the end of the second intermission of the Syracuse Crunch contest against Rochester. Featured items to be auctioned include a 1980 U.S. Olympic 'Miracle on Ice' framed display, Bobby Ryan-autographed Anaheim Ducks jersey, team-autographed Syracuse Crunch jersey and donated items from select NHL, AHL, MLB and NFL teams.
Proceeds from this inaugural event will benefit the Walter R.G. Baker Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Crouse, a New York State Level IV regional referral center for premature and the most critically-ill infants in the fifteen-county region it serves. Crouse Hospital's NICU cares for babies born as young as 24 weeks gestation and weighing just 500 grams. Neonatologists provide coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, caring for 800 to 1,000 infants annually.
Ticket packages are available for $25, which include entry to the 3:30 p.m. contest featuring the Syracuse Fire Department vs. Brown & Brown Selects, entry to a post-game reception (food and non-alcoholic beverages included) and ticket for the Syracuse Crunch vs. Rochester Americans game at 7:30 p.m. on January 15. Packages may be purchased by calling Amanda Susko in the Syracuse Crunch office at (315) 473-4444 or by calling Kate O'Brien with the Crouse Health Foundation at (315) 470-8076.
The Crunch Foundation strives to strengthen and broaden the impact of the Syracuse Crunch in the Central New York region by providing funds to non-profit groups and by supporting educational and community programs. For more information, contact the Crunch office at (315) 473-4444.
