Worcester Sharks News Release

WORCESTER, MA - The Sharks fell behind early and could not mount a consistent offensive attack as the Albany Devils skated away with a 2-0 shutout victory Tuesday night at the DCU Center.

Michael Swift scored both goals for Albany and goalie Mike McKenna stood tall making 32 saves in the shutout effort. The Sharks struggles on the power play would continue as they went 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

The first twenty minutes was controlled by the Albany Devils strong forecheck and neutral zone play. The Sharks were limited to just two shots in the period, which included two power plays. Albany took a 1-0 lead 10:47 into the first as Michael Swift (14th) finished a three-on-one rush for the Devils. Shots were 8-2 and the score was 1-0, both in favor of the Devils at the end of one.

Worcester began to break out of their offensive slump in the second period. Kevin Henderson had the best chance of the period as he was stopped down low on a backhand when he was left alone in front. Both teams failed to convert on power play chances in the second, as the period ended with a spirited bout between Dan DaSilva and Devils defenseman Rob Davison. The score stayed 1-0 through forty minutes. The Sharks outshot Albany 18-10 in the period.

The Sharks pushed forward with their comeback attempt in the third period but could not solve Devils goalie Mike McKenna. The Sharks did not capitalize on two third period power plays, including a 6-on-4 with under a minute remaining, as Albany scored an empty net insurance goal with six seconds remaining. The Devils would go on to win by a score of 2-0.

The Sharks record falls to 18-14-2-5 with 43 points and to 9-7-1-2 at the DCU Center.
