Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Cedrick Desjardins made 37 saves, but Marc-Antoine Pouliot scored the only goal of the contest for the Norfolk Admirals (19-10-7-2) as they fell to the Charlotte Checkers (22-13-1-4), 2-1, on Tuesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. Next on the docket for the Admirals is a pair of games against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday and Saturday nights at Scope.
Charlotte took a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Brett Sutter attempted a backhand wraparound shot that bounced off Desjardins' pads into the slot. Oskar Osala found the rebound between the hashmarks and sent a shot through traffic and past Desjardins' glove at 11:16.
After a scoreless second stanza, the Checkers extended their lead to 2-0 midway through the final frame. Nicolas Blanchard carried the puck into the attacking zone along the right wing and chipped a pass to Jerome Samson for a shot from the slot. Blanchard followed the shot up and swept the rebound into the net at 10:49.
Pouliot's tenth goal of the season drew the Admirals back to within a goal of the Checkers with 5:08 remaining in regulation. Pouliot sent a backhand shot from the right circle past a screened Justin Pogge to cut Charlotte's lead to 2-1.
However, the Admirals could not find the equalizer despite 17 third period shots.
Cedrick Desjardins (39 shots, 37 saves) shouldered the loss. Justin Pogge (32 shots, 31 saves) earned the win.
Both teams were 0-5 on the power play.
