Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The American Hockey League announced today that Rochester Americans defenseman Clay Wilson and forward Michal Repikhave been named to the Western Conference All-Star team for the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross, which will be held January 30th-31st at the Giant Center in Hershey as a tribute to the league's 75th anniversary season. The league also announced that Amerks athletic trainer Kent Weisbeck will serve in the same capacity for the Western Conference All-Star team.
Repik, a third-year pro, currently is Rochester's top point-getter with a team-high 28 assists and 35 points (7+28). Playing at more than a point-per-game pace, Repik is currently fifth in the AHL in assists, while also being tied for 12th overall among the league's top scorers. The Vlasim, Czech Republic, native is coming off three consecutive games without a point, the longest of such a streak this season. Originally a second-round selection (40th overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound forward has also registered nine points (6+3) in 32 career NHL games with the Panthers.
Wilson earns his second trip to the AHL All-Star Classic after scoring seven goals and 20 assists and being just one of two skaters to appear in all 39 games for the Amerks this season. A native of Sturgeon Lake, Michigan, the 6-foot-0, 195-pound blueliner is currently second overall on the team with 27 points (7+20) and fourth among American Hockey League defensemen in overall scoring. Further, his 13 power-play assists are also a team best.
The 27-year-old is coming off a banner year in 2009-10 after capturing career-highs in all offensive categories in goals (14), assists (46), points (60) and penalty minutes (58). He finished the campaign second among league rearguards in scoring en route to solidifying a much earned spot on the 2010 AHL Second All-Star Team. Wilson's last stint in an AHL All-Star game came in 2008 with the PlanetUSA All-Stars while a member of the Syracuse Crunch.
Weisbeck can add another milestone to his list of achievements in his career following his selection as head athletic trainer for the Western Conference All-Star team. "Snacky" was selected by the league based upon his many years of excellence and dedicated service to the AHL and the city of Rochester. Weisbeck has missed only seven games during his 26 seasons as athletic trainer for the Amerks, working his 2,000th game earlier this season on October 23, 2010.
The Buffalo native joined the Amerks in 1985 and has worked in seven Calder Cup Finals during his time in Rochester, including the Amerks' championship seasons in 1987 and 1996. Last season, Weisbeck had the distinction of becoming the first-ever athletic trainer to be inducted into the Amerks Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2010, in addition to being a part of the franchise's historic 2,000th win in the 55-year history of the organization.
The 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross in Hershey will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League, competing in the 2011 AHL All-Star Skills Competition and the 2011 AHL All-Star Game, a two-day event to be televised nationally in the United States and Canada. The event will feature the 2011 AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 30th (3:00 p.m. ET) and the 2011 AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 31st (7:00 p.m. ET).
Tickets for the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Capital BlueCross - which include admission to both the 2011 AHL All-Star Skills Competition and the 2011 AHL All-Star Game - are nearly sold out. Contact the Giant Center box office at (717) 534-3911 for more information.
