December 16, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release

The Storm's 17-6-2 record gives Toledo 36 points, tying the Storm for the second highest point total in the ECHL with the Greensboro Generals. Three teams are currently tied with the highest point total in the league (38): (i) Mississippi Sea Wolves; (ii) Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies; and (iii) Louisiana IceGators. However, the Storm has played three games less than Atlantic City and four games less than Mississippi and Louisiana.

The Storm's (.720) win percentage is the highest in the league.

With the 3-1 loss to the Lexington Men O'War, the Storm extended a season-high road losing streak to three games. Toledo snapped that streak with the 7-3 win in Wheeling on Saturday night.

The Storm's record on the road is currently 5-5-1.

Sixteen of the next twenty-four games for the Storm (through February 8) will be played away from the Toledo Sports Arena, where the Storm is currently 12-1-1.

The 3-1 loss to Lexington marked the fifth time this season that the Storm scored one or less goal(s) in a game. Four of those games have come about in the last eight played by the Storm, dating to November 23. The others were: (i) 0-6 @ Dayton, 10/27; (ii) 1-4 @ Cincinnati, 11/23; (iii) 11/29 v. Peoria, 11/29; and (iv) 0-3 @ Dayton, 11/30.

On Saturday, the Storm tied the season high by scoring seven goals against the Wheeling Nailers at the Wheeling Civic Center. That is the second time this season that Toledo has scored seven goals in a game-and both of them came against the Nailers in Wheeling. (The other game was a 7-4 win for Toledo on November 2.)

In Saturday's 7-3 win, Toledo tied a season high by scoring four goals in the third period. The Storm has now scored four goals in a single period three times-and all three times, the opponent was the Wheeling Nailers: (10/25 v. WHL, 1st period; 11/22 v. WHL, 3rd period).

The Storm currently averages 3.44 goals for per game, which is ranked seventh in the ECHL.

The Storm currently averages 2.76 goals against per game, which is second in the league.

In Friday's 3-1 loss in Lexington, the Men O'War scored the first goal and led 2-0 after one period. The Storm is 4-6-1 when the opponent scores first and 0-5-1 when trailing after one period.

In Saturday's 7-3 win over Wheeling, the Storm scored the game's first goal-by Mike Bayrack at 2:24 of the first period. The Storm is 13-0-1 when scoring first.

In Friday's 3-1 loss, the Storm had 35 shots on goal; and, in Saturday's 7-3, the Storm fired forty shots on the Wheeling net. The Storm has had 35 shots or more shots on the opponent's goal in thirteen of the twenty-five games played this year. The Storm has had forty or more shots on goal in six games this season.

Toledo currently averages 34.28 shots on goal per game, which is second in the league.

In Friday's game at Lexington, the Men O'War had 21 shots on Storm goaltender, Doug Teskey. In Saturday's game, the Nailers had 22 shots on the Toledo goal. These were the two lowest shots against totals for the Storm since the team allowed just 20 shots on goal against the Johnstown Chiefs back on October 18 (game #3 of the season). Toledo averages giving up 30.76 shots per game, which ranks 11th in the league.

In Friday night's game against the Men O'War, the Storm allowed 1 power play goal against in three chances for Lexington. On Saturday, Toledo's PK allowed one goal to Wheeling (on a 5-on-3 power play) in four opportunities. Toledo has now allowed at least one power play goal against in twelve consecutive games.

Overall this season, the Storm has allowed 25 power play goals against in 152 chances for the opponent, which translates into an 83.6% kill ratio-seventh in the league.

On Friday, the Storm failed to score a power play goal in four chances. That marked the eighth time this season that the Storm's PP has been blanked (and the second time it happened in back-to-back games, as Toledo's PP was also held off the board in the 3-1 victory over Trenton in the Storm's prior game).

On Saturday, the Storm scored one power play goal-the game winner by Andrew Hutchinson at 5:54 of the third period-in two chances. The Storm has scored just three power play goals in the team's last 42 chances with the man advantage, which is a 4.76 scoring ratio.

That was Bayrack's third three-point performance of the season. He has scored four goals and added four assists (eight points) his last five games.

When Andrew Hutchinson scored at 5:54 of the third period on Saturday night, it was his first goal as a member of the Toledo Storm, and it turned out to be the first game-winning goal of his pro career. He has previously scored two pro goals with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League. With his first goal for Toledo, he became the nineteenth player to score a goal for the Storm this season.

In Saturday's game, Andrew Hutchinson scored two goals in the third period. That marked the first time in his pro career that he has scored more than one goal in single game. He also became the sixth player this season for the Storm to score two goals in a single period.
