Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – Louisiana IceGators defenseman Kevin Mitchell, who leads all ECHL blueliners in assists with 27, has been loaned to AHL Bridgeport, IceGators head coach and vice president of hockey operations Dave Farrish announced Monday.

Farrish also announced that left wing Daniel Goneau will rejoin the team in Pensacola prior to Tuesday's game against the Ice Pilots. Goneau played three games with AHL Hershey over the weekend, notching one assist.

Mitchell is expected to join the Sound Tigers today and be in the lineup Wednesday when they play in Hamilton, where he started his pro career in 2001.

Mitchell, a Long Island native, is joining the New York Islanders' AHL affiliate. He ranks second among all ECHL defensemen and fourth on the IceGators with 32 points (5g, 27a) and joins former IceGator Konstantin Kalmikov in Bridgeport.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound defenseman had three assists in eight games with Hamilton in 2000-01 after finishing his junior career. Last season, Mitchell was an ECHL All-Rookie selection, and also participated in the All-Star Game, notching 39 points (7g, 32a) and 127 penalty minutes in 63 games. He also saw action in 10 games with AHL Houston, failing to record a point.

In 110 career pro games, Mitchell has 74 points (12g, 62a) and 228 penalty minutes. In his IceGators career, Mitchell has 71 points (12g, 59a) in 92 games.

Goneau is tied for second on the IceGators with 36 points (10g, 26a). His 26 assists are tied for third in the ECHL.

The IceGators play three times this week, starting with Tuesday's 6:05 p.m. matchup in Pensacola. Friday, Louisiana travels to Mississippi for a 7:35 p.m. game – the team's ninth contest this season against the Sea Wolves – while Saturday the IceGators return home for a 7:05 p.m. game against Arkansas. Saturday, the team will have a skate with the players for one hour after the game.
