December 16, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fort Wayne Komets News Release
Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets split a weekend home double-header taking 2 points and holding 2nd place in the Eastern Conference of the UHL for the 3rd consecutive week.
Friday night the Komets were upended 5-3 by the visiting Muskegon Fury. Goaltender Tom Lawson stopped 24 of 29 shots in his 10th straight home decision of the season and turned aside all 6 Fury power plays. Adam Lewis, Sean Venedam and Ryan Severson each scored for the Komets.
Saturday the Komets snapped their 5-game home winless streak with a 4-3 shootout win over the visiting Elmira Jackals. Pokey Reddick started the game for the Komets and allowed 1 goal on 19 shots before leaving the game due to dehydration with 11:03 remaining in the 3rd stanza. Komet Equipment Manager Joe Franke, dressed as emergency back up goalie due to Lawson being called up to Milwaukee (AHL), was forced into action and stopped 4 of 6 shots in regulation and allowed only 1 of 4 Elmira attempts in the extra frame to take the shootout win. Franke's first appearance as a pro was topped off with an assist on the Komet's 3rd goal of the game scored by Colin Chaulk. Also scoring Fort Wayne goals were Bobby Stewart and Jason Selleke.
This weekend the Komets have another 2-game home stand slated after they visit Missouri Friday night at 8:15. Saturday the Komets return home to host the Quad City Mallards at 7:35pm and then face the Rockford IceHogs on coliseum ice Sunday at 5:05pm.

Komet Equipment Manager Joe Franke, who was serving emergency backup due to Tom Lawson's call up to Milwaukee, entered the game in relief and scored an assist on the Komet's 3rd goal for a new Komet record of 2 goalie assists in one game, each to a different Komet goalie.
