Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
LAST WEEK: The Pride went 1-1-1 last week, moving to 13-8-5 on the season for 31 points. Pee Dee is tied with Columbia for second place in the Southeast Division, two points behind division-leading South Carolina. The Pride will play at South Carolina on Tuesday, at Greenville on Friday and host the Grrrowl on Saturday.
Thursday, December 12 @ Columbia Inferno 3 PRIDE 2 (OT)
For the fourth time in their last five outings, the Pride would see a game go beyond regulation. And for the second game in a row, Pee Dee lost with less than a minute remaining in overtime when Rejean Stringer beat Matt Underhill on a 2-on-1 break. Derek Halldorson had the hot hand for the Pride, scoring the tying goal at the 7:40 mark of the third period, and assisting on Allan Sirois' first-period tally.
Friday, December 13 v. Columbus PRIDE 3 Cottonmouths 1
The Pride got off to a quick start as Preston Mizzi lit the lamp just 32 seconds into the first period, and Mike Glumac followed with his team leading 17th goal at the 3:29 mark. There would be no more scoring until Columbus' Mike Bishai cut the Pride lead in half 8:03 into the final period. But, a Wes Goldie empty net, power play tally with 32 seconds left in regulation sealed the win for the Pride.
Saturday, December 14 v. Roanoke Express 4 PRIDE 1
Joe Dusbabek and Shawn Limpright scored first-period goals for the Express, while Dylan Gyori added a goal of his own in the second, giving Roanoke a 3-0 lead through 40 minutes. The Pride pulled within 3-1 on a Wes Goldie power-play goal 20 seconds into the final period, but Mike Peron put the game out of reach with a power play goal of his own at the 13:20 mark. Roanoke outshot Pee Dee 40-24 in the game.
THIS WEEK'S GAMES
Tuesday, December 17 @ South Carolina 7:00 p.m. Coverage on Sunny 105.5 at 6:40
The Pride and Stingrays meet for the fourth time this season. Pee Dee is 0-1-2 against South Carolina this season, and 0-1-0 at North Charleston. Friday, December 20 @ Greenville 7:05 p.m. Coverage on Sunny 105.5 at 6:45
Pee Dee and Greenville meet for the second of eight times on the season. The Pride were victorious in the first meeting, 3-1 at the BI-LO Center on November 2. The Grrrowl are 14-12-2 on the season for 30 points, and are in fifth place in the Southeast Division, but they are just three points out of first place and one point behind the Pride.
Saturday, December 21 @ Greenville 7:30 p.m. at the Lion's Den
The Pride and Grrrowl wrap up their home-and-home series at the Florence Civic Center on Saturday night. It is Greenville's first visit to the Lion's Den since their game four win in last year's Southeast Division Finals, eliminating the Pride from the playoffs.
OTHER NOTES
MIZZI, GOLDIE END SCORING DROUGHTS
Preston Mizzi and Wes Goldie both ended long goalless droughts on Friday night against Columbus. Mizzi's goal was his first since November 2 at Greenville (8 games) and Goldie's was his first since November 15 against South Carolina (11 games). Goldie added a second tally over the weekend in the Pride's 4-1 loss to Roanoke on Saturday.
PRIDE LOOK TO END ROAD WOES
Pee Dee will have two chances to end their road woes this week. The Pride are winless in their last four road games, posting an 0-2-2 record in those contests. Additionally, they have been outscored 15-5 in those four games.
WEEK SWEEP MEANS ANOTHER MILESTONE
The Pride enter this week with 497 all-time franchise wins. If the team wins all three games this week, the Knoxville/Pee Dee franchise will become the first franchise in ECHL history to reach the 500-win plateau.
