Johnstown Chiefs News Release


WEEKLY SUMMARY:

The Johnstown Chiefs (12-13-3; 27 PTS 4th NW div.) picked up three of six points last week. The Chiefs settled for a shootout loss at Roanoke Tuesday night, and split a pair of games at the War Memorial with the Peoria Rivermen. This week the Chiefs will play three games in three nights with home games against Cincinnati and Reading, before hitting the road Sunday afternoon to take on the Lexington Men O'War. The Chiefs are off till Thursday, as the team is taking Christmas break.

GAME #26 (12/10/02) ROANOKE 4 – Johnstown 3 (SO) Forget, Courchesne Goal, Assist

Leading 3-2, the Chiefs surrendered a goal to Roanoke's Joe Dusabek with just 2:37 remaining in regulation. The teams would go to a shootout where former Chief Dan Carlson would get the game winner for the Express. Dominic Forget, P.L. Courchesne, and Sam St. Pierre scored for the Chiefs. Peter Aubry made 30 saves for the Chiefs.

GAME #27 (12/13/02) JOHNSTOWN 6 – Peoria 4 Boutin Goal, Two Assists

The Chiefs scored three 3rd period goals as the defeated the Peoria Rivermen 6-4, Friday night at the War Memorial. J.F. Boutin led the way for the Chiefs with a goal and two assists. Ian Manzano, Vladimir Nemec, Sam St. Pierre, Dominic Forget, and Lukas Smital also scored for the Chiefs. Peter Aubry made 41 saves for his 8th win of the season.

GAME #28 (12/14/02) Peoria 3 – JOHNSTOWN 2 Hildenbrand Two Assists

Peoria did all their scoring in the first period as they defeated the Chiefs 3-2 Saturday night at the War Memorial. Dmitri Tarabrin and Dominic Fo rget scored for the Chiefs. Peter Aubry made 32 saves in the defeat. Both Johnstown goals came on the power play.

The Chiefs face the Cincinnati Cyclones (14-9-1, 27 PTS; 3rd NW div.) for the fourth time this season Friday night at the War Memorial. The Chiefs are 0-3-0 against the Cyclones this season. Cincinnati has out scored the Chiefs 18-5. The Cyclones are currently in 3rd place in the Northwest division and are 7-3-0 in their last ten games.

The Reading Royals (15-15-1, 31 PTS; 5th NE div.) come to town for the second time this season Saturday night. The Chiefs are 0-1-0 against the Royals this season. Reading defeated the Chiefs 4-2 on 11/9. The two teams will meet three more times this season. Reading is currently in 5th place in the Northeast division.

The Chiefs and the Lexington Men O'War (11-11-4, 26 PTS, 5th NW div.) meet for the fourth of eight games this season Sunday night. The Chiefs are 1-1-1 against the MOW this season. The MOW are currently in 5th place in the Northwest division trailing the Chiefs by a point. The MOW are 6-4-0 in their last ten games.

CHIEFS NOTES:

- Lukas Smital's ten game scoring streak was snapped in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Peoria. Smital had 14 PTS (5 G, 9 A) during the streak.
- Dominic Forget has four goals in his last five games.
- The Chiefs are 7 for 18 (39%) on the power play in their last three games.
- Mike Rodrigues played in 94 straight regular season games for the Chiefs before sitting out in Saturday's 3-2 loss against Peoria.
- Phil Roy leads the Chiefs with 83 shots on goal.
