Toledo Walleye News Release

The Storm's 15-3-1 record gives the team the most points (31) in the league standings, as well as the highest current win percentage in the league (.816).

Toledo's 15-3-1 start is the best opening nineteen game record in the history of the organization.

The Storm won two home games this week (Friday, 11/22 v. Wheeling; and Sunday, 11/24 v. Cincinnati). The Storm has won the first eleven games that the team has played at the Sports Arena this season (11-0-0). That establishes a single season record for consecutive victories at home.

In Toledo's 6-3 win over Wheeling on Friday night, Toledo scored four third period goals. That marked the second time this season that the Storm has scored as many as four goals in a single period. The other time was a four goal first period against the Wheeling Nailers on October 25. (The Storm won that game 4-3).

Alexandre Jacques scored the Storm's first two goals in Toledo's 6-3 win over Wheeling last Friday night. Jacques' first goal was also the first goal of the game. Jacques has scored a team high four first goals this season.

With his two goals on Friday night, Alex Jacques extended his personal point streak to a team high nine games 911g-4a=15pts). That streak was snapped in the Storm's 4-1 loss in Cincinnati on Saturday night. Jacques did score a goal in the Storm's 3-2 win over Cincinnati on Sunday.

With his three goals this week, Alex Jacques now has a total of 14 goals which places him in a tie for second in goals scored in the ECHL--one behind Brian McCullough of the Reading Royals.

Alex Jacques has scored a total of 23 points (14g-9a=23pts), which places him in a tie for seventeenth place in the ECHL scoring race.

Alex Jacques is currently playing at a +18, which ranks him third in the league in that category.

The game winning goal in Friday night's 6-3 win over the Wheeling Nailers was scored by Darryl Bootland. That was the first game winning goal of Bootland's pro career. He also scored the Storm's lone goal in the 4-1 loss to Cincinnati on Saturday night.

Jeff Johnstone had a goal (the Storm's fifth--scored while Toledo was on the power play) and picked up two assists (including one on Bootland's game winning goal) in Friday's 6-3 win over the Wheeling Nailers. That was Johnstone's first multi-point performance since joining the Storm two games earlier (on November 15).

With his goal on Friday night, Jeff Johnstone became the eighteenth player on Toledo's roster to score a goal this season.

In Friday's 6-3 win over Wheeling and Sunday's 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones, the Storm scored the game's first goal. Toledo is 11-0-0 when scoring first.

Storm goaltender, Brian Finley, got his first start for the Storm since October 19 on Saturday night. Finley stopped 30 of 34 shots in the 4-1 loss. That was the first loss of Finley's professional career.

Toledo's Nick Parillo scored the first goal of the game in Sunday's 3-2 victory over Cincinnati. That is the second time this season that Parillo has scored the game's first goal.

Nick Parillo currently has twenty points (8g-12a=20pts) in 16 games with the Storm, which places him in a tie for fourth place in the scoring race amongst first year players.

The game winning goal in Sunday's 3-2 win over Cincinnati was scored by Andre Payette. That was Payette's first goal as a member of the Storm since joining the Storm this week (11/22). In scoring that goal, Payette became the nineteenth player to score at least one goal with Toledo this season.

The Storm penalty killing unit gave up at least one goal in each of the three games this week: (v. Wheeling, 1-4; @ Cincinnati, 2-6; and v. Wheeling, 1-7). The opponent has scored at least one power play goal against Toledo in six consecutive games. Overall, Toledo's PK has allowed 19 goals in 123 power play chances against, which is a 84.6% kill ratio, which is sixth league.

The Storm power play was blanked in the 4-1 loss to Cincinnati on Saturday night. That snapped a streak of scoring at least one power play goal in six consecutive games. The Storm's PP has been blanked four times this year; and all of those games have been out on the road. Overall, the Storm has scored 27 power play goals in 126 chances, which is a 21.4% scoring ratio--eighth overall in the league.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION:

Jeff Johnstone (1 goals - 4 assists = 5 points, +2, 1 power play goal, assisted on 2 gwgs)

One week after joining the Storm, Jeff Johnstone picked up pretty much where he left off two years ago when he was a member of the 2000-01 team and scored 66 points in 56 games. In Friday's 6-3 win over Wheeling, which was only Jeff's third game with the Storm, Jeff racked up his first multi-point performance, scoring a goal and adding two assists including one on the game winning goal. Jeff's goal in that game, which was scored on the power play and which gave the Storm a 5-3 lead late in the third period, essentially put the game on ice. In Saturday's loss, Jeff won an offensive zone faceoff that served as the trigger for the lone goal scored by the Storm in that game--and made the game tight (at 2-1) in the second period. In Sunday's win, Jeff assisted on the game winner again, when he won a battle on the left wing wall and fed the puck to the point, where Matt Eldred took a quick one-timer on goal that was deflected in by Andre Payette.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK NOMINATION:

Doug Teskey (2-0-0, 2.50 gaa, .920 save%)

Doug Teskey continued his winning ways for the Storm this week. He stopped 27 of 30 shots on Friday night in the 6-3 win over Wheeling. He made the save of the game, when Tim Preston of Wheeling had a short-handed breakaway late in the third period with the Storm leading by just a goal, 4-3. Teskey made a brilliant stop which seemed to spark the Storm power play unit which, in turn, promptly went down and put the game out of reach. In Sunday's 3-2 win, Doug's play was the difference in the game. The Cyclone's pounded the pressure and had numerous good scoring chances; but they were only able to score on a rebound after a brilliant stop by Doug on a Joe Cardarelli breakaway that resulted from a defensive zone turnover; and then with just 3 seconds remaining and Cincinnati on the power play and the goaltender pulled (6-on-4 skater advantage).
