Fresno Falcons News Release
Last week the Fresno Falcons returned for the first time to where they won the Taylor Cup Championship last May but things went a bit differently this time around. The Idaho Steelheads shutout the Falcons on Friday night at the Bank of America Centre in Boise, 6-0, and then swept the two-game series after a hard fought battle on Saturday night, 2-1. The two losses were Fresno's first of the season to Idaho following three straight victories earlier in the campaign.
The week got off to a good start for the Falcons as goaltenders Terry Friesen and Mark Gowan combined to shutout the San Diego Gulls, 2-0, on Tuesday night at Selland Arena.
Fresno's 1-2-0 week results in the team dipping below .500 for the first time since their season opening loss to the Bakersfield Condors. The Falcons begin the week with a record of 7-8-1 and 15 points, which ties them with the Gulls in third place in the WCHL. Idaho leads the league with 26 points and Bakersfield is second with 18.
ONE GAME THIS WEEK
Fresno plays just one game this week when they clash with the Gulls at the San Diego Sports Arena tomorrow night. All of the live play-by-play action can be heard on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show at 6:50 p.m. Fresno is 3-0-0 against the Gulls this season.
FALCONS RETURN HOME DEC. 7
After tomorrow night's game Fresno will have a full 10 days off before returning to action on Dec. 7 at Selland Arena to get their first glimpse at the Long Beach Ice Dogs. The game will feature the team's 3rd Annual Teddy Bear Toss and the first 5,000 fans will receive a free team photo, courtesy of Baja Fresh and ValPrint.
The players will also wear holiday jerseys against the Ice Dogs. The team will auction off the special edition jerseys following the game with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the construction of Community Medical Center's new trauma and critical care building in downtown Fresno. Tickets are still available for the game on the 7th at the Selland Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets or by going on-line at www.Ticketmaster.com.
PRACTICE SCHEDULE
The Falcons will only practice on Friday of this week. They will hit the ice at Gateway Ice Center at 10 a.m.
