Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release
It's Over: The Kingfish snapped a team worst 11 game winless streak on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over the Mississippi Sea Wolves. During that stretch, the Kingfish went 0-8-3 while picking up just three points.
One for 100: Kingfish forward Bryan Richardson tallied three assists in Tuesday's 4-3 loss vs. Jackson. Richardson entered the game needing 4 assists for 100 career helpers as a Kingfish and is currently one shy of the century mark. Richardson is two assists shy of Jon Sturgis' second place mark of 101 assists as a Kingfish. He is 60 assists shy of Cam Brown's first place mark of 158 assists as a Kingfish.
On the Power Play: Kingfish forward Clark Jones added another power play goal in Baton Rouge's 3-2 loss at Louisiana on Friday. With five power play goals through 18 games, Jones is on pace to tally 20 power play goals this season and set a new Kingfish single season record for power play goals. Mike Rucinski holds the current Kingfish record with 13 extra man goals set during the 2000-01 season.
On the Board First: The Kingfish picked up the first goal of the game in Friday's 3-2 loss at Louisiana. It was just the third time this season that the Kingfish tallied the first goal in a game. Baton Rouge scored first again on Sunday in Mississippi, just the 4th first goal this season for the Kingfish. Baton Rouge is 2-2-0 when scoring first this season.
Breaking the drought: Kevin Tucker's goal at the 5:57 mark of the first period of play on Friday gave the Kingfish their first lead in a game since leading the Mississippi Sea Wolves 1-0 on October 27th. After giving up a goal in the second period against the Sea Wolves, the Kingfish didn't hold a lead for 583:04. Not including 0-0 ties to start a game, 7 ties were as close as the Kingfish would come to a lead during that stretch.
Retired: Forward Trevor Wasyluk hung up the skates last week, ending a 3-year pro career. Wasyluk came to the Kingfish midway through last season and ended the year strong with 10 points in 12 games. Wasyluk is returning home to Alberta for an opportunity to become a second conductor for a major Canadian railway company. In 16 games this season, Wasyluk tallied 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points.
Back in the hunt: The Kingfish picked up two points in the race with the Sea Wolves for the Coca-Cola Cup. Mississippi has three wins for 6 points, while the Kingfish picked up 2 points with the win on Sunday. Game 5 of the Coca-Cola Cup is Thursday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Fish Leaders: Clark Jones leads the Kingfish in scoring with 15 points off 7 goals and 8 assists. Glenn Crawford added an assist in yesterday's win pushing his total to 14 points. Jeff Blair leads the Kingfish in goaltending with a 2.72 goals against average and a .916 save percentage good for 11th place among goaltender in the ECHL.
