Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska. – The Anchorage Aces hope to continue their march toward the .500 mark this week in a difficult venue, the Bank of America Centre in Boise.

Anchorage began last week with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Long Beach Tuesday. Rookie winger Jiri Jakes had an assist to go along with the game-winning goal at 11:28 of the third period. Christian Soucy stopped 34 of 36 shots as the Aces rallied from a 2-1 deficit entering the final 20 minutes. Anchorage lost 5-2 the next night to wrap up its homestand at 2-2-1. Kimbi Daniels and B.J. Young scored in each game of the Long Beach series for the Aces, who return home for another two-game set against the Ice Dogs December 3-4 at 7:00 p.m. Despite being idle this weekend, Yvan Corbin remains tied for the league lead in scoring with 20 points (9g-11a) while linemate Dean Larson is just one point back in a tie for third at 19 points (8g-11a) and second in shooting percentage at .296. Soucy sets the pace among WCHL goaltenders with 393 saves and 802 minutes played.

Defenseman Dave Csumrik is expected to come off the injured reserve list this week for Anchorage, whose only victory last year in Boise came in the playoffs. The Aces were beaten by scores of 6-2 and 4-2 at the Bank of America Centre to open the 2002-03 regular season, then suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the Steelheads two weeks later to open their home schedule. Idaho remains a perfect 6-0 at home this year following a sweep of the Fresno Falcons last weekend. Anchorage has not won a regular season game at the "B of A" since February 14, 2001 and is only 5-29-4 overall against Idaho since John Olver took over as head coach in the summer of 2000. The series against the Steelheads begins Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. AST, and continues with Friday and Saturday night games at 5:00 p.m. AST.
